just a straight repaint of some captain America jets. when i saw these at a discount store i had to get two because they look pretty fast and sleek and high end. i had thought about a newer firebat version till i remember that i had some cool figures in the parts bin to go with them. i thought about doing some kinda python patrol thing to them till i decided to creat my own stealth paint job. not sure if you can see the snake scale paint job on them but the top of the jet is covered in it. i think of it as the newer version of pythonizing.

How did you do the crackle effect on the top? I've tried the laundry bag method for python effect, but your's looks a lot more involved.

the crackle paint was a happy accident from about a year ago i was working on some cosplay gear for my gf.
i spent the better part of a month making a near perfect wonder woman shield for her. the finishing touch was putting a light coat of clear on it before bed. when i woke everywhere i used the blue coloring it was all cracked up. talk about MAD! it took me the better part of a week to sand down the area and paint and sand and paint till its pretty much you cant tell the cracks were there. so i got to thinking... i normally only use auto grade spray primer, this time all i had was rustoleum spray primer. i then painted with several colors. 99% of the time i air brush my peices with tamiya paints. they lay down perfect in a few pass's plus i have a dual stage airbrush that helps. now if the piece is really big i will use spray paint to save on the expensive tamiya paint. i hate spray paint because its easy to get runs or uneven coats etc. the area i airbrushed was fine, even the blue spray painted parts untill the clear was applied. funny thing is the tamiya never cracked just the rustoleum painters touch 2x ultra cover with primer in blue once the clear hit it. i normally use auto grade clear coat but this time all i had was rustolem's version. i scratched my head because as a rule you always use the same makers paints so stuff like this doesnt happen. well i remembered that when i used this combo on the shield i got cracking so i wanted to try it on purpose this time on the jets. i primed the peices with the rustolem white primer. applied regular blue spray paint on the bottom half and it dried fine as you can see. the top half i used the rustoleum paint and primer blue and i got the crackle....without ever using the clear coat. so your guess is as good as mine how it happened. what i do now is if i am going to use spray paint, even if its the same makers, i do a test shot on some scrap plastic i have laying around and make sure it does crackle when i want it to. i do think tho that next time i need a can of cobra blue i am not getting the stuff with the primer in it. maybe the two primers dont like each other. few years back i made custom motorcycle helmets for myself of optimus prime and bumble bee. i used all auto grade spray paints from the local parts store and the helmets came out flawless. normally thats all i use. i like the colors better plus its the closest place for me to get spray paint lol idk if that helps but its exactly what happened. |

You should add a big battle damage scar on Xamot's jet, lol
