Thanks, since the Stinger SD project is kinda on hold I've started fiddling with something else. I will be posting a WIP thread probably tomorrow. I will be using the same materials and techniques I did building this but this time I'm even scratch building the wheels out of foamboard... I built one wheel just to see how it would come out, I liked it well enough that I cut out a BUNCH of circles for the other 17...

I just got done sorting my vehicle fodder. Removing the worthless parts that were not usable and trashing it and then organizing and separating the different type of fodder, Wheels, whole bodies, small pieces and details (still need to break down that tub into smaller groups like guns, seats and so on). Anyway point of the story is once I got done I discovered I have a 25 gallon tub of wheels so guess I have to shy away from buying new vehicles JUST for their wheels. Well unless they are really awesome. LOL.
The hard thing to find is guns and turrets, heck even the Joe line has a limited number of viable turrets. I do my best to build them from scratch but would prefer to just have a good ready made one. LOL The other thing I always pick up at thrifts are junk transformers because they have good pivots and hinges.

Thanks. I used photoshop to fix angles and scale on a photo of an actual truck printed it out, cut it out and traced the profile onto the foamboard. The rest was easy. I saved the file in pdf format and would happily email it to you so you can use it as a pattern.
The cardboard strips for detail and filling in the foam was key as well. I used a lever type paper cutter to cut the strips, made it super easy to get nice straight long strips of cardboard. |
