I am a HUGE John Carter fan.
I love the idea of traveling and going on adventures. John Carter gives me both of these. I've been working on this custom for a long long time, but just could not decide how to approach this particular character who has had so many looks in so many different media. Well, I have a John Carter figure from the now defunct Trendmasters company. I like the outer world look of the armor and as luck would have it, I came across an extra one. Some dremeling later, and a good coat of paint, and I present to you... John Carter, Warlord of Mars! and here is a comparison shot of the Trendmasters JC and MY JC recipe head= MU Magneto body= Sub Mariner armor= JC mostly

This is a cool figure, I too like john carter, my knowledge is limited to the comic books and movie, but I would love to one day read the novel. I find the themes in the story fascinating, and some awesome humor too "jump Virginia..."

I read A Princess of Mars a few years ago, but still need to watch the movie, which I wish I could have seen in theater.
You've certainly improved the figure! |

I'm also a huge John Carter/Barsoom fan. I love this figure - great work.
For a real challenge, you could try to make another one based on his look in the novels, where everyone on Mars wore sandals and a leather harness for a sword, but otherwise was naked. Again, great work. |

The novels are all super short and very quick to read, and I really enjoyed them. Although I would say that if you read the first one - A Princess of Mars - you should really read the second and third, too - The Gods of Mars and The Warlord of Mars. The tenth novel - Llana of Gathol - is also pretty good, because while still keeping a tone consistent with the earlier ones, Burroughs pokes some fun at himself and the formula that he uses in each of the Barsoom novels. |

I had some kiddie version of the novel that I got from my elementary school, it was on the free book cart so I took it and enjoyed it. I remember seeing the trailer for the movie and the name ringing a bell, after some research I knew what it was.

Great job on that figure! I'm pretty much blown away that you managed to dremel off sculpted-on armor and transfer it to a MU figure. The end result is pretty amazing.
I never read any of the Burroughs novels, although I did download A Princess of Mars for my Android Kindle app a while back but never got around to reading it. I really have to check it out sometime. I did see the movie, however, and while it had its problems, I felt it was a lot better than it's reputation would have you believe. I mean, it was directed by the guy that made WALL-E, dammit, how bad could it be?

I love the Barsoom books and thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
Awesome work. An inspired improvement over the original. Now get thee to work on a Dejah Thoris.
