Nice work, Lovely detail. I actually liked the little presentation ceremony you laid out. Somehow it sells the swords more than would just a single photo of them.
DO you also have a working 3/34 inch Uzi for Snake Eyes? |

With pleasure, bros!
I used the following: Blade and Sword Guard (Tsuba) - aluminum from broken umbrella stems. I cut and flattened them as desired. When I use my metal sheet shears for some reason the pieces seem to bend naturally. Sword Collar (Habaki) - Brass sheets that are almost paper thin. I bought them from Ongpin because I cannot seem to find recyclable materials. Sword Handle Cover (Same) - Wire wraps from discarded earphones. I also used wire wraps from a busted PC power supply. Sword Handle Wrap (Tsuka-Ito) and Scabbard Cord (Sageo) - Tassel thread. I bought them from dress making and tailoring shops. I was experimenting with strings but they didn't do well. With tassel threads they tend to flatten as you wrap it on the handle. Scabbard (Saya) - Used cotton earbud stems. It's quite unsanitary but I don't want to use new ones so what I do is spray them with disinfectant before I cut the buds off. I then flatten them so that the blade will fit in. I took out the stems from discarded aluminum umbrellas then flatten and cut them to their desired width and length. I filed the blade point and sanded the blade just enough to take off the scratches from rough-cutting the blade. I wasn't able to sand it down to shine since it's so small but I'm still refining my methods. I measured the blade to scale so the whole sword (Nihonto or Daito) is roughly 3" and the Wakizashi (small sword) is roughly 2". I filed the tang (Nakago) narrow to accomodate the Same. I carefully slid the Nakago to the Same and occasionally heated the Same so it will expand and slide easily. I cut the Habaki from brass sheets and wrapped them on the blade with super glue. I cleaned off the excess carefully with my cutter blade and sometimes sanded it with the thinnest grit I have, usually P220 or P600. I cut another piece of aluminum for the Tsuba and filed it to the desired shape. I spray painted it black but I'm also looking into electroplate dyeing it. I also stuck it with super glue on the blade. I wrapped the Tsuka-ito in the Hira Maki style since a Tsumami Maki isn't possible in this scale. I terminated the wrap with a simple but tight knot, put super glue on the knot, cut the excess and burned off the material sticking out. For the Saya, I took used cotton bud stems and flattened them by using a metal tube as a rolling pin. I cut the stem a bit longer than the blade and stuck epoxy to the butt of the Saya and sanded the whole stem for the paint to stick well. I then cut the Kurikata (scabbard knob) around 1/2 cm from the mouth and used a bulletin board tack to pull it enough to raise it from the Saya. I then painted it with canned spray paint. I followed a Sageo (scabbard cord) tying diagram I found on the web using improvised "knitting needles" I made from tie wires. Whew! So that's basically it! Hehehe! Ü |
