Updated February 28 to add Scarlett:
And March 3 to add Zap: Someday I'd love to photograph the Original 13. Since I don't have any of those legends of 1982 that started (or rather re-started) it all, that particular portrait will have to wait… perhaps indefinitely. In the meantime, while I'd like to produce a lazy-bastard custom of each of the Original 13 (re-imagining some of them subtly, and re-imagining others audaciously), that's not likely, either; I am burned out on Snake Eyes, and even if I could muster some enthusiasm for him, I doubt I could find anything to say that Hasbro's 10,000 (mostly awesome) versions of Snake Eyes haven't said already. Also, is there a viable modern-era Scarlett head? I can't think of one. So no OG13 for me, most likely. Still, I have unwittingly stumbled into having produced lazy-bastard kitbashes of four of The Thirteen, and I thought I'd share them here, although there's nothing here that followers of my 90-some-page "Geek Creek Kitbashes" thread haven't seen. However, there are a few photos that will appear here a few minutes before I paste them into said Kitbashes thread. (Thank me with cash.) First off, because he's the most recent of the bunch, and therefore my favorite at the moment: Anthony S. Gambello, otherwise known as "Flash": You can discern most of his recipe at a glance, but a couple of his accessories are obscure enough or strange enough that I'll go ahead and explain them now. His backpack is of course taken from the Collector Club Nocturnal Fire Psyche-Out. His helmet (provided by the Rise of Cobra Aqua Viper) is resting snugly atop the Pursuit of Cobra Destro drill accessory, from which I long ago cut the actual drill component, figuring I'd eventually use it instead as a generic sort of tech-looking device. His belt appears courtesy of Agent Helix. Finally, I stole the item that's in his other hand from the (non-removable) belt of a delightfully absurd and aggressively '90s action figure from McFarlane Toys called Blitz: (You can see the unlikely accessory just above Blitz's left hip.) I harbor no small measure of nostalgic affection for the brittle, dated, charming McFarlane Toys product of the mid-1990s, but I never cared for Blitz. Assuming no one else ever cared for Blitz, either, I opted not to attempt to sale him (I won him in a lot on eBay, along with two or three other stupid figures and two or three that are actually cool); instead, I harvested whatever random parts I could gently remove or carelessly break from him. Here's what I've done with Blitz's crazy armor: Up next: Dude With Many Names, also known as "Short-Fuze": I like to offer multiple-choice options for why one might opt to hate me. In this instance, I am not only (mostly) lazily copy-pasting from another thread (three guesses which thread), but I am also ignoring the classic take on Short-Fuze in favor of an un-produced version… from the dreaded Sigma 6. (In my defense, the original Short-Fuze had three different File Names, depending on which file card you happened to purchase; why should I bother trying to remain loyal to a character who can't even figure out his own name?). First, I shall share a photo (not mine, but rather Nemesis-Kidd's) of my all-time favorite un-produced figure, Sigma 6 Short-Fuze: Christ on his throne, I want that toy! Here's my small-scale tribute: It's simple as can be: Rise of Cobra Twin Gun Range Viper with Arctic Destro legs and Renegades Ripcord chest pad, topped with the Big Bad Toy Store Dreadnok Burnout head. Like the Sigma version, he also has a cool helmet: And look what happens when you add the Range Viper helmet back onto the Snake Eyes head: (Note: after capturing that photo, I foolishly, inexplicably chose to trade the Range Viper helmet). Also like the Sigma version, he has remote-controlled toys to make stuff 'splode: Moving on, I'd like to get this next fella out of the way: Lonzo R. Wilkinson, or… "Stalker"! I am reasonably happy with my Stalker "custom", but he's the oldest of these four kitbashes, and he's the laziest and simplest of the four, as well, added to which I find the Resolute Stalker head difficult to photograph, albeit not as difficult as the 30th Anniversary repaint, which tends to sport wonky eyes. Anyhoo, owing to all these factors, I only have one photo of Stalker: I like that he and Short-Fuze share the same body; it feels true to the spirit of the figures from 1982. Oh hell, I'll go ahead and post the one portrait I captured of Resolute Stalker as he appeared in the Big Bad Toy Store Resolute set: That figure is quite flawed (he has a turtleneck piece, but much of his shoulders are exposed flesh!), but I still like that photo, and its title. Finally, the star of my HISS Tank, Fighting 1:18th and (most fittingly) OG13 forum signatures: Lance J. Steinberg, whom your ass had better call "Clutch": That there's a spankin'-new photo. Meanwhile, here's much more in the way of photos and musings on my Clutch kitbash: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ture-team.html But I'll go ahead and keep adding photos here, too, until I hit the twenty-photo limit (you mods are fascists!): I never had a Clutch figure when I was a kid. I'm not sure I even knew about him. But as someone who considers himself a mostly gentle, respectful and polite member of society, someone furthermore who sympathizes with most if not all of the tenets of feminism... I love me some Clutch. He's so much fun to write! …whew. These threads of mine always get away from me. I should have been in bed two hours ago, and I've filled my Flickr photostream with most of the photos I had planned to share slowly over the course of the next week (PhotoBucket makes my photos look horrible, so now I prefer to share photos here via Flickr). And I've probably bored and/or baffled the lot of you. Yo, Joe! Last edited by Monte Williams; 03-03-2014 at 07:59 PM.. |

Thanks!
I forgot to post one other photo; I'd noticed partway through the shoot that the seams running down the front of the leg were very pronounced on my Flash kitbash… turned out I'd neglected something when I put him together: I removed his legs to get the Helix belt to fit, and never replaced his screws! Thanks, guys!
I have added Grand Slam to my OG13 ranks: However, that was the body I was using for Stalker, so his head has been transplanted: Last edited by Monte Williams; 02-28-2014 at 07:06 PM.. |
