I've already said this in one of my many bloated, rambling posts, but it bears repeating: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ary-black.html.
And as I've noted in my most bloated and rambling of threads, http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...kitbashes.html, this antipathy towards black has manifested itself in an ambivalence towards villains, and as such I am trading and selling almost all of my Cobra figures and villainous kitbashes. My nostalgia for these characters and toys is not sufficient to motivate me to keep them (at the end of the day, dinosaurs rather than terrorists are the compelling antagonists for this weary old man's silly stories), but it has motivated me to put together a farewell tribute to them all in the form of this, yet another bloated, self-indulgent thread. I'll start off with Corduroy, mostly because I just captured a few new portraits of him. The Corduroy Killer by Geek Creek, on Flickr Corduroy started as a riff on Toyman, the Batman villain. From there I briefly flirted with the notion of using him as a good guy, instead (this misguided notion was inspired by nothing more than a desire to produce a photo of Jungle Duke, PoC Stalker and assorted other modern military badasses charging heroically on a battlefield… alongside a dude in a suit and a monkey mask), then decided he should be a serial killer. Corduroy by Geek Creek, on Flickr I never really decided anything for certain about his identity, and whatever the case he is the laziest of lazy-bastard customs, featuring a Henry Jones, Sr. body with a LalaLoopsy head. Nonetheless, he is one of three or four villains I am considering keeping; I assume no one is heartbroken. (I've long-since sold the Paris Pursuit Baroness body, although I do still have this Polly Pocket head). With Mother: New Corduroy portraits, because I decided he has multiple masks, and it is imperative that everyone sees them! There are several that rest on the shoulders, like so: I cannot decide if they look distractingly stupid and comical, or unwittingly creepier than even the others. I've known for a while that Corduroy is one of the few people who works well with my original character Souvenir (about whom much more soon). Today I decided to explore that relationship for the first time. First off, here's a mediocre portrait (sue me, it was cold outside and I didn't want to linger), which only succeeds to the extent to which one finds the juxtaposition between Corduroy's lair and Souvenir's aesthetic as intriguing as I do: Next, Souvenir bristles at Corduroy's suggestion that anyone who joins his team must wear a mask. But Corduroy assures him he's designed one especially for Souvenir: Up next… Souvenir. Last edited by Monte Williams; 11-28-2013 at 02:03 PM.. |

Souvenir is simply an uninspired Snake Eyes from a Sigma 6 two-pack. The figure did so little for me, added to which he was so ubiquitous, that I decided, what the hell, let's burn the bugger.
I then burned a Sigma 6 Long Range trench coat and melted a Jungle Snake Eyes mask, and I liked the resulting figure so much that I named him Souvenir, and decided he's less a terrorist and more of a trophy killer who uses keepsakes from fallen Joes to torment any Joe he confronts. His burned suit is itself a keepsake; he burned a Joe alive in this suit, and now he wears it himself. Souvenir by Geek Creek, on Flickr As I've noted elsewhere, I feel it is best to leave the origin and purpose of the teddy bear to the viewer's imagination. For this next portrait, I'll quote the written context I provided on Flickr: I decided that Souvenir has targeted Duke, and he has really taken the psychological warfare to a new level, even going so far as to sacrifice one of his precious keepsakes in order to leave a "bread crumb" trail for Duke to follow. Said bread crumb takes the form of a portrait... of Duke's wife and daughters. Bread Crumb by Geek Creek, on Flickr (For what it's worth, I arbitrarily chose Duke as I was typing that explanation. If I ever turned this idea into a diorama, I would probably use a more obscure or interesting character). Since my definition of "customizer" is apparently "pyromaniac", I decided to recreate Souvenir in the small scale. This time, Wraith was the victim. I use him as a good guy called Battery: Here's Souvenir the Second: Gasoline by Geek Creek, on Flickr Fire Walk With Me by Geek Creek, on Flickr Plays Well With Others by Geek Creek, on Flickr Anthropology by Geek Creek, on Flickr All My Toys are Broken by Geek Creek, on Flickr Name Your God and Bleed the Freak by Geek Creek, on Flickr Last edited by Monte Williams; 11-28-2013 at 02:02 PM.. |

Baroness is a cool villain, but her charms wore thin for me years ago, and so I used a Bellatrix LeStrange head and a Resolute Cobra Commander helmet to turn the Baroness into an Ayn Rand disciple with shades of Leni Riefenstahl.
I call her Anthem. I then gave her the name of a character from a novel I'd given up on finishing. I love your stuff so much and want so much to intergrate your characters into my own Joeverse. I've already started on Winchester and I think I have a good starting point for Red Queen.
As always, it's a pleasure gazing upon your excellent work. |

you always do some amazing photographic work and I definitely like the villains with the doll/teddy bear toy masks. It gives me that crazed secret society vibe, even remind me a little bit of Batman's court of owls.
awesome work on everything else as well man Keep it up Last edited by phantro; 11-29-2013 at 06:11 PM.. |
