That is pretty clever using that P.O.C Lowlight head for Iceberg! That Arctic Alpine is lovely too!

Great call on using the Low Light head. It's oerfect. But that arctic Snake Eyes is perfect! I'm totally stealing that recipe.

This really was a fun project for me. Both DOD and myself had been looking for alternative heads to replace the Club's retooled vintage head so, when he proposed the idea of using the Low Light sculpt as was shown in the Club's preproduction mock up, I couldn't pass on the project- the potential new look was too cool. Later we had the idea to use the Low Light head modded with a vintage Iceberg hat just to see another possible take on the figure.
BTW: I can only laugh at myself though that I was in such a hurry to finish the figure for DOD that I forgot to paint the eyebrows. Lol. It was completely an oversight. If some had not have pointed it out, I would not have noticed. Thanks again for the trade sculpt too, DOD. I'll post pics later of it with my newly made Sgt Slaughter Warthog driver custom. |

i think it's a crying shame what the club did to Iceberg. I mean they have a year to get the figure put together correctly and they just blew it big time. Kind of a waste for a figure that should have been shown more respect imo. I hope the 2014 figure will be good if we are getting one it is mid October and still nothing on that front.

I'd prefer a head with hmm maybe some ears and not just a cast of an 80s toy's head....they SOO owe us a replacement head for being valued customers. They can add it in with our subscription next year.

Retooling vintage weapons, vehicles or accessories can be useful but, for a part as essential and primary as the head it is just unacceptable to retool a vintage head for a ME figure. Honestly, I hate that. I understand they may not have had the budget to fund an all new sculpt but, if they couldn't do the project right then, they should have put it aside, choose another figure they could complete and came back to Iceberg once they were in a better position. Maybe it's not as simple as that and we are missing something here as to why Iceberg came out so badly..I don't know.. |

Just for the record (and this is a huge "first world problem", I know, but I still don't like paying tons of money for shit quality from a niche "collector" company) the Club explained how the screw-up happened...
They claim that they sent a vintage head TO China as a reference (why China should be responsible for sculpt work, I have no idea... They do the damned tooling and pressing, not the design or sculpting) and China got "confused" and used the vintage head, just retooled, instead of using that as a point-of-reference for a new sculpt. So when the Club got test samples, it was apparently too late, they said "fuck it" and just went with the screw up instead of fixing it like they should. Now, mind you, that whole excuse sounds like bullshit to me, especially since they waited until the last minute to reveal anything AND claimed that the prototype's head was a placeholder, just to get more people to sign up for the 2013 membership by the deadline... and THEN they revealed the real product. I'm sure people would've bitched if there was a delay, but either the Club or the factory should have either eaten the cost or sent back the inferior product and fixed it if it truly was China's mistake. I think it's just easy for them to blame the factory, but Iceberg is hands-down the worst figure they've produced in years. Any apologists can look at how many are sitting on their site still (Dial-Tone and Footloose sold out fairly fast the previous 2 years) as a testament of how badly the figure turned out. |
