I really like that SJ74's POC Low-Light / ARAH mash-up.
Looks like I'm gonna have to cast some Lowlight and ARAH Iceberg heads to make my own SJ74 "Iceberg".

New Lowlight head does give Iceberg a modern look. Better than the dated head sculpt but for some reason I keep seeing the guy from the movie Soul Man...

Man, I absolutely love this thread. I've also been waiting to post in it. I was actually the first person to vote in it. I've been thinking up ways to improve this figure, and I've had different ideas going through my head. I'm just not sure about how to go about executing it since I'm a non customizer.
I love the pics of the '86 crew, because they all look great and it was my favorite cast of Joes. I also hold Iceberg as a personal favorite of mine from back in the day. It sucks that some of us feel the need to improve on such a great character, but both you and SuperJoe74 did an outstanding job. I love his look, it's just so much better than what we got. I’ll also say that if he had looked like that from the beginning, he'd be more coveted than Dialtone, but this is all my opinion. Was it difficult to get the upper legs to work with the lower? There is a slight family resemblance:

I'm no customizer either - just a kit basher, so if I can do it you certainly can too. Last edited by Dod Ear; 10-13-2013 at 09:16 PM.. |

That's is just too funny sir! I'm having flashbacks to Rae Dawn Chong and James Earl Jones in that movie now. No, not at all. The knee joint on the Iceberg lowers is thicker than the space on the 3 Pack Storm Shadow upper legs I chose. I used and X-acto and shaved the peg on both sides until it fit smoothly into place. I'm no customizer either - just a kit basher, so if I can do it you certainly can too. I still like watching Soul Man. So all it took was an exacto knife, huh? I'll give it a try but the painting will be new to me. |

Pretty much my thoughts. I dislike the figure we got so much that I really don't even know where it is. It's around somewhere - I just don't care. This still doesn't look right, but I like it well enough that I might have to either get a cast or look up my extra Low Light so Iceberg can see the light of day.

I don't like the use of the Low Light head. It has the wrong hat and I don't like different characters sharing the same face.

I have to side with Falcone. The Low Light face just doesn't look right. It might be much better with eyebrows... that's really making him look freaky and angry.
This figure is just kind a mess due to several reasons: (1) Awful head (of course) (2) Awful legs. I understand they wanted the fringe for accuracy, but if this was the only way to make it happen it just wasn't worth it... Spirit's legs are horrible, and very obviously at least in need of a skirt. (3) Fur is too obviously Snow Serpent's. Again, I think they would have been better off not trying so hard to match the vintage if the cost was to make it bizarre looking like this. I will say you have pretty much fixed two of the three issues. I think I would still prefer the outdated head the club used to Low Light. But he does look 100x better. But I shouldn't have to be a customize who can mix paint and spend $20 in materials just to get a decent looking fig. They should have done better. Hopefully this year they will. I would really like for them to offer the new head they made... even if they did it as a $5 add-on to the club price this year. But I don't see that happening. |
