If memory serves, I used Krylon Fusion Patriotic Blue and Satin Black. The Fusion series of paints are the closest thing you can find to toy industry standards for fusing with plastics so that the paint doesn't easily rub off. And they're 100% lead-free. I bought them at my local Home Depot.
