Pretty simple, really.
Renegades Tunnel Rat head. Popped off the face mask, antlers, etc. Shaved TR's head and the inside of the helmet before gluing them together. Painted his neck black (otherwise he's got some pretty baggy skin...) Painted top half of waist sash black. Made a scabbard for his sword (black construction paper, super glued together and coated with super glue to harden). Piece of red wire for the rope to hold his scabbard to his sash. That's it. Might paint some more details on his armor since there are tons that are lost with the single color job they did. |

Finally, someone has done the correct thing for his katana. I'll add that TR's watch cap does fairly well as a hachimaki, which ol' Budo was lacking.
I miss the antlers and mempo, though. |

I was okay with taking off the mempo and antlers because, well... they all came off in one piece. There are lots of examples of Samurai armor that don't have the mempo faceplate or other adornments. I like him being able to wear his helmet and still be able to see his face. |

Pretty neat.He could be a relative of Subotai. That head works though better than that head they placed on which looks rather retarded or drugged out. I passed on this figure as I really dont know what to do with it. Looks more like Red Ninja leader in some temple setting. I remember the original wearing some sorta modern military outfit with a kevlar vest with just a samurai helmet..was a more plausible figure in a modern setting.

More like Hasbro couldn't execute the traditional armor back then so that's the ARAH equivalent of it. That's clearly feudal Japanese armor and mail.
I got no use for him as a Joe figure, but he's no worse than that 1980's Hollywood cliché named Stormshadow. Hope I get my hands on him, he's gonna be a tiring, but rewarding, project. |

I may be in the minority but it kinda looks weird without the mabizashi. I really like what you did with the tachi-style hanger, though.
