If I'm understanding you correctly, then you've got a neat idea here. You provide the bits, someone else provides the sweat, and in the end you get a custom made by someone else using all of the pieces that you provided. Yes?

But again, the problem that arises is that I send in my parts/pieces, and then get parts pieces from someone else. I spend 8 - 10 hours putting the parts together, adding accessories, doing a kickass paint job and send it back, and in return I get a figure that someone spent 20 minutes on, with parts glued together with some paint slapped on.
Just not worth it IMO. What I've done in the past is just approach other customizers whose work I like and ask if they would be interested in a trade. We then each make a figure and send it. This way I kind of know what to expect.

Starwarsgeek, I can understand your hesitancy- you make incredible stuff and you don't want a piece of crap in return for your effort. I dunno- I think the reward outweighs the risk. Then again, ask me again when I get my figure back...lol

I put too much work into my customs to let them go (and I'm not too good at it, so I mean a LOT of work). I'm down with the review part of it though!

Probably the easiest way for you... ;) No offense, you do, do awesome work, but you seem more in it for you, what you get out of it and that's not what this is all about. It's about everyone, plain and simple. Like I said, I'm not raggin' on ya, I love your work... but for you, and people like you who are more in it for the profit(most of your customs end up on ebay right?).. then this isn't for you... ;) Thanks again for all the ideas everyone, I'll start it up this weekend with the rules and the sign-up thread, you have to be a member before April 1st, and you have to provide a link to your work for sure.. other guidelines will be in the "official" thread. I don't want to single people out and say, "your work sucks" I'm not like that, but I will pair figures up in groups... LBCs(If I get them) Simple repaints Higher End repaints Modified/casted/sculpted customs. How's something like that sound? Billy Bob sends in a Simple repaint, so does Curley Cali, and Flakie Frank and Arrogant Adam send in highly customized modified and sculpted on customs.. naturally I'll swap Bob and Cali's customs, and Frank and Adams.. plain and simple.. now it most likely won't be exactly even.. in that case I'll have to ask for a handful of volunteers that honestly don't care what they get and are more in it for the fun of it.. if it comes down to it, I can go to those guys that I might have to do an uneven swap with(only if it comes down to it). I can see how most people would want something equal to what they put into it, so I'll be sure to keep that in mind and I hope that'll also make people step it up when they do send in what they want to. Anyway, some of you are making it waaay more complicated in what I was thinking, lol.. but so far the majority seem to like the idea. Last edited by Joerhyno; 04-01-2009 at 02:05 PM.. |

Sure, right now I've been posting most of my work on ebay for sale since I'm unemployed. And I've been taking on commission jobs for the same reason. But I'm not just trying to make a quick cash grab, that's for sure. There's no way I could survive just doing this for a "living" without anything else, but I digress... And I'm also not just in it for myself. Like I said, I've traded custom figures with other customizers before, and not all of them were at my "level" but I did it anyway because I considered them friends. I've made stuff for people without asking for anything in return, I've sent parts/supplies to friends without asking for anything in return, etc. In fact, right now I'm organizing the fodder-swap going on over at TGC which you're a part of Joe. I realize that I have different usernames and all, but that's me. Maybe that would be a better idea to start up the same type of thing here and run with it instead of asking people to make figures and then send them in.

Thanks YoJoe, and I know you're Jokabofe/SWgeek, lol.. why I mentioned the ebay auctions... Anyway, I don't wanna do something everyone one has done already, why I thought up this unique idea... like said above and still stand by it, maybe this isn't for you.
