I'm about to tear apart my AT-TE and transform it into a Cobra combat personnel deployment system (CP-DS for fun). Although I am thoroughly entertained by the stock lights and voices, I want to add something more appropriate.
Who here among us has/can change/custom "sound cards"? Are there any good sources of custom electronics? |

I'm throughly unfamiliar with the Star Wars toys so I don't know what type of electronics are involved, but it should be a fairly simple operation to hook up the speakers to a small external sound source such as one of those no-name $15-$20 1 Gig solid-state mp3 players that you can occasionally find in supermarket aisles. The good thing about using an mp3 player is you can easily swap out the sounds and it's easy to transfer sounds recorded from CDs, DVDs, or downloaded mp3s, and if the vehicle is large enough, you can simply set the mp3 player as part of the engine or whatever.

If you're wary of using the speakers that come with your Star Wars vehicle (particularly if it uses a wiring set-up you're unfamiliar with), you can simply use the mp3 player solution with some miniature speakers such as the ones found here.

I was hoping to find the sound cards somewhere and have them programmed with my custom sounds. I found a guy who may have been able to do what I needed done, but apparently he died 2 weeks ago and the business is closed. I may have to educate my self and learn to build my own.
The space for the electronics in the AT-TE is huge! It is also buried in the center and difficult to access. I bet it took the kids several hours to assemble mine. |

Another option is to hit the dollar stores for cheap toys with sound chips. I am building a terrordrome and I am going to use the sound chip from a toy gun for the cannons. Also toys like tanks, planes, and other items have chips that can be removed and used for whatever projects your working on.

you could alwyas look for one of those lil' toys where you press a button and record yourself and then another to play it back... I don't know how well it'd be, but might work.
