I've been working on my personal "holy grail" project since last November now and am still amassing my Cobra army for it and some detail pieces and such, but I have a big problem with how big this is going to be once it's done! I am building a huge Cobra Underground Springfield base and am styling it after the Pit from the Marvel comics. The problem is I don't really know what to use for the actual foundation and floors for each level. I have 30+ Hiss tanks that will be going in the motor pool area along with Stingers, repainted Vamps, Crimson Guard vehicles, etc. and I also want to put an air-hanger in it too with a squad of Rattlers,Fangs,Claws,Firebats,Crimson Conquests & a squad of custom Crimson Red Tides(Sharc/Night Specters). The size of this is going to be huge! With the size of the structure alone along with the weight of all the vehicles/figures I need the foundation to be sturdy and not fall apart on me. Any ideas?

Plywood sheets and sturdy 1X3" or 2X4" Boards. Build it like you would a book shelf. Use screws instead of nails. For extra support you can use hurricane ties (metal plates and sheets you use on wood joints and corners to make it nearly impossible to break or collapse). I built a roughly 6 inch scale building top floor and roof back when I collected Marvel legends out of 1X3s and plywood. Worked great and is sturdy as hell. I can even stand on it. Plus its cheap to make them.
For about 25-30 bucks you can get all the structure material you'd need. Cheaper if you can find scrap wood. Hobby shops sell thin strong plywood sheets that are ideal for this kind of project. Lowes and Home depot do as well, usually in a scrap wood section. I bought a pretty big sheet of 1/4" inch plywood from lowes that was 5 feet long by 4 feet wide for about 5 dollars from their scrap section last year.
