Here's another great pic of Winchester that I chose for my Pic of the Week a long time ago.

I always enjoy seeing your pics. They are always adventurous and fanciful. Reminiscent of our childhood days playing with our GI Joes in the yard.

One of my favourite characters of yours. As you know I liked it so much I copied the idea!
William Winchester and ? | Flickr - Photo Sharing! - only posting the link as I don't want to sully this awesome thread with my terrible effort. ;-) Of course, my single picture (so far) is nowhere near as good as yours. I've also recently acquired a second Dr Mindbender and can't use the head for anything else!

Thanks, everybody, for the very kind words.
I chuckle every time you make this suggestion...and now I can just picture you becoming a mod and immediately banning me, and telling me, "What? You can't say you weren't warned!" I posted photos of him in the Geek Creek Kitbashes thread, and here: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ides-head.html I thought about giving him a sort of retrospective post like this one, but the problem is that for most of his storied career, Badlands was basically Outback, and as such it probably wouldn't make for an interesting thread for most people. However, he is probably my favorite original character (even if I did not create him), and so I may still post just such a thread, not least because this thread went over better than I had expected it to. Secondly, what base body did you use again? It looks like it might be that unusual Rise of Cobra Snake Eyes repaint; is that right? I nearly acquired a second Mindbender head a while ago, but missed out. I am not sure what kind of alternate outfit I would try for Winchester, but the idea is a fun one. Quote:
Something I really enjoy about you your customs is how deceptively simple, thinking-outside-of-the-box they are. So much of what you have done is taking what is given and just simply looking at it in a different angle that makes it stupefyingly cool. A clever head swap and name change goes leagues in changing preconceived ideas we have on parts and what is acceptable. On top of that you mix in figures from different lines and scales to add aspects I wouldn't even conceive of on my own. To top it off, your willingness to take the figs outdoors, pose them and photograph them to the best of your skills ensures that what you do ends up alive. So many pictures tell stories without words or much description. You are doing much to push boundaries of what can be done with a simple figure, looking forward for more.
Thanks again, everybody, for your time and encouragement! Last edited by Monte Williams; 05-20-2013 at 01:33 PM.. |

First off, you are too hard on yourself; don't make me post my embarrassing early toy photos again! Secondly, Correct, It's this one - SNAKE EYES (v49), YOJOE.COM | YoJoe.com: Dedicated to the G.I.Joe of the 80's, 90's and beyond! I got mine on Ebay along with some other figures (3 Crimson Guards & 3 Wild Bills)

That's such a strange, awkward Snake Eyes, but you're not the first person I've seen make good use of it. I may have to track it down.

Between the pictures and your descriptions, Winchester seems like a fantastic mash-up of adventure hero Allen Quatermain meets missionary/explorer David Livingston with a dash of Jules Verne and Conan Doyle's "The Lost World" characters thrown in for good measure!

Yeah, for me Snake Eyes is all black with possibly a bit of grey.. Desert Trousers? Nope, that's not his "style" but a good custom base!
