I've been working on civilian monster hunters, and needed some stands for them. I didn't like the idea of having Joe or Cobra logos on them, because they're not with GI Joe or Cobra. Not to mention, Hasbro's odd peg placements. I've tried making stands out of sheet styene, but it warps too easily. So, I used the styene to make inserts for the tops of Hasbro's stands. I cut out the tops, and glue these inserts in, after I finish the scenery work on them.
This shows how much I cut out of the stand, and how I reinforce the joints where my acrylic pegs go in. Scenery is model train scenery ground foam, over dirt colored paint. I smear a layer of matte medium over the paint, then dump a thick layer of ground foam on top of it. I press the foam down a bit, then let it set for a couple of minutes. After I reclaim all the loose foam, I soak what's glued dow with thinned out matte medium. Then, I sprinkle different colors and textures of foam over the base layer. After it's all dried, I glue in the pegs with superglue, and glue down the insert with plastic weld. |

I made two stands with bio-mechanical growth on them, to go with my techno-organic creatures. (who I really need to get to working on) The organic bits were sculpted from Apoxie Sculpt, and have been given a few thick coats of Future floor polish, to give them a nice slimey look.
This base was meant to look like a steel plate, being over grown. It has a few bits of styrene in it, for details. The piston is plastic and brass. This one is meant to be a natural landscape being taken over. I'm letting Nemesis Enforcer keep it, untill I get one of my own creatures made. The ground foam was just sprinkled into the wet paint, and allowed to dry. A few coats of flat clear finished seeling it down. |
