Back in the day i use to love customizing my joes. Now that I'm back into collecting I want to start it up again but wanted to do something 'different'.
I saw the new Viper and I've seen quite an interest in them in the forums just because of the chromed face plate. Now i came across a technique to do that, though its not 100% that it will work out exactly the way the new viper is, its something i'm interested in finding out. Though the kits are like 300 to 400 bucks and then more for the chemicals. Now my old lady is skeptical about the whole thing. Only way she'll allow me to even attempt it is for it to be able to make some money back to pay for the equipment. Do you guys think there is enough interest out there for chroming joes to convince her its worth investing in? |

It really only comes down to a need for specific parts...however...Sky Patrol option is out there for vehicles. I don't know if that would make it worth your while.

If you chromed other lines you could do well, Transformers, Go-Bots,Joes, and a load of others all had chrome. If you stuck to Joes it wouldn't pan out thoug IMO.

yeah, I agree, if you found your little niche, you might get somewhere, but I dunno if just making a million Destro, CC and Viper heads would work, lol...
Transformers might be worth it, but then you gotta look into what you do, how you do it and who buys your stuff. I personally wouldn't want a place to sell exact replicas to vintage stuff, then you run the risk of hurting the vintage collector population.. say you make some cassette weapons, and they're exactly like the originals.. your "business" takes off and becomes huge in the secondary collectible world... now people are going to question if they buy a mint complete Buzzsaw on ebay, if those are real vintage weapons, or if they're Crim's Custom Chromed weapons... knowwhatImean? Now if you did something, that would maybe change the look, or find some way of altering the original before chroming it, then I think that might be okay, but then you still risk the chance of someone buying from you, just to resell it as an original.. Also, you can't expect to make your money back overnight either... it's gonna be a small market to begin with, so making that back could take time. |

I am confident if you chromed a 25th Snake Eyes into a Cobra Mortal, you could easily get $100 plus for them.
not to mention just chroming the head and making a chromed 25th Cobra De Aco could easily get you some high scratch as well. |

I think if you chrome certain Joe parts ( like the bogey wheels of a hiss tank) or remake Transformer parts( like new blasters) you will find some market out there. I agree with your cassette argument, but if you produce new weapons that wont be a problem. Re-chroming Insecticon parts could do you well. Unfortunately I dont see many joe figures, other than Bats and that chrome guy with the shield, that need chroming. But then again chrome platted Snake Eyes could be cool.

depending on cost, i'd chrome parts or whole joe vehicles just for the uniqueness of it. i'd love to have a one off chrome custom rattler for example. i don't need it to fit into any particular line, just for fun and for me. maybe something like a chromed hiss with candy blue or red paint? i'd certainly have fun with it.
i'd like to see what a chrome plated figure looks like as well. i've always liked the limited edition chromed transformers and who knows, maybe a custom chrome joe would be neat to have as well.
