Please, be careful when using old electronic parts. some have hazardous and poison materials as heavy metals in their composition.

So long as you aren't cutting the circuit boards or eating the solder your fine. Don't break the florescent bulbs either but that goes for any florescent bulb even the new enviromental/economic spiral ones. And don't break open the capacitors or batteries but that goes for any battery as well. |

Cool thread since I'm just getting started at custom work. If you guys are looking for a glue that is sandable and very paint friendly, look into archery glues/epoxies. Goat Tuff is a brand of glue I use that will reattach cut webgear and HOLD it under tension, is sandable, and paints over very nicely. Works in about a millisecond too. If it can hold arrows together at 300 feet per second, why not use it on Joes I figures?
Also...Great Stuff Spray Foam Insulation is AWESOME for making landscapes in Dio's and flames for jet packs. After it dries you can cut it with an exacto easily and will paint well.

I've seen some cool techniques using clear paint over silver for metallic colors and to change visor colors. At a hobby shop I came across some sheets of metal like chrome, brass, gold and a few others that I was going to use to change face plates on some Vipers or Cobra Commanders. If the weather ever warms up and I can do the work, I will post images.

Coffee plastic cups.
Some of them have a convex bottom, that is great for radars. I found one that is transparent, and very though, perfect for visors and goggles. Something i always use is an old bike tire (y'now, the insides)...sorry, dunno how you call it. *blushes* Is great to make all kind of belts, and even vests. Is very flexible and stretchy ( i used this to make a folding crossbow for Scarlett). An since is usually black, you won't need to paint it. You can also make real small sword or knife by hammering carefully a nail of the right size. Make it a little curved and you'll get a katana. |
