Four done so far. The goal is twelve or thirteen. They're a pain to make. I carve out a portion of plastic at the front making it more accurate & giving me a place to put the front ring. To be even more accurate I should be installing a sling mount ring on the right side of the gun, but I can't find anything small enough that would work. I wish I could make these slings adjustable, but the strap is too thick for a decent looking buckle. I've got several layers of crazy glue on my fingers from making these. The glueeither soaks into the leather too fast & stiffens the leather, or bleeds around to the back & get on your fingers. Much of the strap leather has to be shaved & thinned without accidentally carving away too much. This cord is stiffer than I'd like too. The glue didn't want to stick to the paint & bled all over the place. It's also hard not to end up gluing the rings to the straps.

Instead of leather, you could try using a product called Rexlace. It's sold at Michael's (I've seen it at Walmart too, under a different name). It's like a vinyl material that's super flexible and really easy to work with. Plus, it comes in black, brown and anyother color you can think of.
But for it being made of leather (and that being a bitch to work with at times) and for the amount of work you did to GET it to that thickness - AWESOME WORK! |

I'm cheating a bit here & making them appear to be worn as tactical slings. In fact they aren't attached to the webbing at all - I just propped them up high to the shoulder. I am thinking however of adding rings attaching the slings to the webbing. This would allow the gun to stay in the down position even as the soldier moves around, yet allow allow the gun to be brought to a ready-fire position with lightning speed.
EDIT: I think that alone converts these classic 80s paramilitary soldiers into viable soldiers even by today's standards.
