I always use enamels over acrylics for durability and longevity.
The issue with using enamels on soft plastic is not with the actual plastic but instead, it's a chemical reaction between the enamel and the existing paint on the figure. The two paints react causing an instability which prevents them from setting and they will remain tacky. In this case there was no existing paint. If the surface being painted is cleaned appropriately- removing existing paint, debris, etc. an enamel will ensure a good adhesion and a solid and durable finish.

Interesting but why does it only seem to have an issue on the soft plastic?
I've used enamel over the hard plastic that had existing paint on it and the enamel dried just fine on the hard plastic. Even though there was already a layer of paint from the factory. I'm not arguing here. If it works it works. Just wondering. Nice fix btw. Color match is perfect.

Nice fix!
Indeed, it's a shame these FSS figures have glaring mistakes like this. Is not a belt buckle, it's a pretty obvious detail that can be seen easily. Quote:

The problem is with the color of the plastic and the combination with certain enamels. For example, grey soft plastic always gives me problems with colors, except if i use first a base of white enamels, which dries fine.
