Kinda sucks that neither of these guys came with a backpack...... ......I rectified that problem: First up, Shockwave: 1) I know it's on the vintage figure, but I really detested all the yellow bits on the cammo. I mean, wouldn't those little yellow highlights kinda defeat the whole purpose of wearing camouflage? So, I pretty much repainted most of the visible yellow bits blue......Not my best paint work there. 2) The backpack is a Viper's backback painted blue with the grenades painted black. I also tried to add a little bit of a dirt-wash effect to it. Very minor, but it helped to make the backback blend in a little more. 3) I hated how the belt just hung there, leaving an ugly gap between it and Shockwave's vest. So, out came the superglue to keep the belt high and in place: 4) It was sad that Hasbro only packed Shockwave with two little pea-shooters. What kind of self-respecting SWAT officer comes into a fire fight with such small weapons? Didn't have an extra submachine-gun/uzi (I think Version 3 Snake Eye's uzi would have been a good choice). So, I gave the Joe's resident door-kicker the Cobra Paratrooper's gun instead. Next post, Tunnel Rat. Last edited by Mog; 09-07-2015 at 03:59 PM.. Reason: Re-insert pictures. |

Nice work, its good to see soem good solid adjustments. I think every 25th Joe I own has super glue on it somewhere. :-)

I was literally this close to using the original vintage head instead of this walking stereotype of a head. But other than the slit-for-eyes, the headsculpt was too good to pass up. (Plus, I think the vintage head would have looked out of proportion.)
So, I used a toothpick to give him some semblance of eyes and added a few more black stripes to the sides of his face: I wanted to make something similar to Tunnel Rat's old vintage backpack. So, I scavenged through my old Joes for an appropriate backback. And Flint's old one appeared to be the best to use. The flashlights on top are from Tunnel Rat's vintage backpack with the lenses given a little bit of a black-wash. (I was probably influenced by the comic that came with the pack, since I figured painting the lenses shiney sliver would give away Tunnel Rat's location. ) For the backpack, I did the following mods: * Trimmed down the back peg and moved it higher up on the backpack. * Drilled two holes for the flashlights to sit in. * Painted the grenades black and gave the backpack a painted dirt-wash effect (to make it look less plastic). * Added some adhesive putty so the backpack would stay in place and not fall off. Questions, comments, critiques? Last edited by Mog; 09-07-2015 at 04:01 PM.. Reason: Re-insert pictures. |
