I am trying to work a pair of Star Wars lower legs on to a 25th Custom I am doing... however, I dont exactly know what the best way to do it is. The legs pop off like most of the hands on the 25th joes, but they dont have the same connecting piece like Joe lower legs do. Has anyone every done this before, how did you do it without mutalating the legs.

Does it have the same type of joint as Joe elbows & ankles? I salvaged a group of Indy lower legs with the vague idea of cutting out the current hard plastic joint & drilling/pinning in a Joe knee but haven't got around to trying it yet.

1-Pop off the SW leg. 2-cut the ring/peg of the rest of the lower leg. 3-Here's the trouble: get a piece of soft plastic (the same type that arms are made). ----If you have an useless upper SW or Indy leg will do it. Since it's useless, keep it as material to cut and sculpt. 4-From that piece of plastic, carve an articulation knee like Joes have. Best way is to chop a portion of plastic, and draw on top of it the knee silohuette. Is not that hard, specially for an experienced customizer like you. Remember to NOT make the holes. 5-The lower leg doesn't have holes for the horizontal peg. Drill one on each side (make them centered), but don't do big holes. Keep them small. 6-Now put the carved knee on place, and make a mark where the center of the hole on the leg is, that's where you're going to place a new peg to hold the leg. Make a SMALL hole on the carved piece. 7-Get a piece of hard, resistant plastic. Make a peg. Take measures from one of the joes. ----If you have the remains of a plastic tree (one of those where weapons came attached in some figures) will be perfect. 8-Place the holding peg. It would take some effort, since the holes should be smaller, but once you get the peg on place, it will stay really thight, and will look more seamless. You can use superglue, but is not necessary. 9-Alternatively, you can glue a small knee pad like Joes have, or directly carve it all in a single piece. -You may have to sand down a bit the lower leg, but when you're into it, you'll figure it quickly. -Take in count that the figure will be a bit more taller. Or simply, don't carve a piece for the knee, use one of the Joes. I prefer to do it manually, cos i can measure exactly where to put it (be careful, and take in count the rotation.), the exact size of the holes and because is much more fun This system also works to add articulations to Destro's leg, with some differences. I've used a lower leg from an armored trooper, and made it attached to a vintage upper leg. I'm doing something similar to arms, so i can have more rotation on the elbows. |

But seriously, for someone that has experience and skill (lots of tankers have it, and some also are awesome at sculpting, choping, etc) is no big deal. They'll be saving time and money. SW figures are difficult, more than Indy. They have very different sculpts, sizes and shapes, so you have to work personally on the piece you've selected, or you could find some issues. Now i'm trying to make an elbow that works like a knee, but without losing the rotation. I think i have it figured, as soon as i make it i'll make a post. This could be cool, cos it will allow a lot more of movement in the arm. |
