those paint jobs are all super tight. I browsed the Zoe earlier - I thought you made great choices for the parts and paint. I also think your paint choices for the other figs are superb.
The Simon figure is a dead-ringer, the head is an uncanny likeness for such an obscure actor. But... The head for Mal just doesn't do it for me, to be honest. That same figure with a less cartoonish head, and I think you'd have it nailed. I saw someone over at Joe Customs was similarly putting together the Firefly crew, and he had a perfect figure for Jayne, and similarly couldn't quite find a perfect match for Mal's head. Anyway, I hope you don't mind my unsolicited input. But I'm a big Firefly fan, so I wanted to chime in with support for the project, and give some hopefully constructive thoughts. btw, how does the paint hold up on those figs? The paint looks outstanding in the photos. |

I also have the same problems with Mal's head. Everyone's critizism is appreciated, but it's always great to get input from other browncoats
The paint holds up pretty well (I haven't really done the touch ups I need to in the joints yet so I can't comment on that) The funny part is the guy you saw is who got me jumping on doing the crew myself, His Jayne made me want to do the others |

I actually like the Mal head, yes, it's a bit cartoony, but it works. Heads are sooo hard to customize. The paint on his shirt is amazing.
I'm not into the Wash head, looks more like Jayne with blond highlights, I would try the Hawaiian print if I were you. Zoe's body looks great, but I can't help but see Scarlett's head, she looks like she's a chimney sweeper or she put on makeup like Al Jolson did. Simon looks great. I too am a HUGE Firefly fan.

That Jayne posted at Joe Customs really was fantastic. Do you know what head was used for that one? I'm the one who suggested starting with some version of a Han Solo head for Mal, just because the hair would be a closer match.
I actually thought about trying my own after seeing those as well, but I'm still getting my feet wet with customizing at this level. I spent some time customizing the very obscure Johnny West/Marx figures on the 1/6 scale. But it takes a whole room to store those projects, and my 25A Joe projects are all kept neatly in my desk drawer until they are ready for the light of day. |

Mysterious Stranger used a Major Barrage head from the DTC line I originally used the VOTC Endor Han Solo head for my Mal, but it just looked like Han Solo in different clothes :( and of course I modded the neck ball to fit Star Wars heads (Much bigger neck ball) so any head I use on the Mal body has to have a huge hole dremmeled into it I also went so far as to cut the hair off the Han head to use on a different head but the Han head is also much smaller so the hair never really worked right....maybe if I use a Han head from the 90's line, that might work |
