very impressive man! By the way if you coat the pads twice in sealer and dremel or xacto down the edges of the actual hinges the paint should be permanent. By the way check out my latest Para Viper customs!

thomassatcher/Custom Para Viper 1 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting I love your addition of the the para-vipers actual chute being attached on the back. With the Hasbro version i felt that he was lacking in the equipment department. Your's remedies that nicely. Awesome job. Thanks all for the comments! I love the feedback. Paul = feedback whore.

I am not only impressed, but I always freak out that customizers have so much money to spend on all of these figures just to make a simple upgrade! I mean this example must have cost some good money in figures and supplies. Then there is the time commitment. I barely have enough to buy a Joe or 2 per month for my collection. I surely don't have the extra cash to buy 8 more of a figure just to make them better! Remember I love what has been done, but just freak out at the cost.
I need to make more $$$.

I need to make more $$$. I love Gi Joe. Obviously, it is what brings us here, but i also happen to have a son who loves GI Joe too. So, i buy the figures primarily for him. If it were just myself i wouldn't get anymore beyond a single figure to collect dust on a shelf. He likes to army build them, i do too, but as you mentioned it is difficult to justify the strains on the pocket book sometimes. In order to alleviate problems, i limited our army building to 10 of each troop. An easy way to build an army is to hunt and trade for things others need. I also trade some of my older ARAH stuff to get some of the key figures too. Ordering the internet cases helps eliminate waves of figures all at once and saves gas on hunting too. I like to hit Hasbro toy shop with the coupons as well. With all the figures we buy we had a ton of extras and doubles, so i got thinking about getting into customs. The supplies for customizing are expensive up front, but you also can use them over a very long time if you take care of everything and do a lot of preplanning. My biggest expenses have recently come from getting a dremel tool and all the accessories to use that in my custom work. The work i do during the day and the job my wife has allows us to have enough money to get most things we could want for now. So we are very fortuante, especially in the curret economic climate. We live below the money we make and we don't accumulate debt. The time required to do something like this is in fact very large. I work at home so i can take breaks and get in some quick fixes and additions as i go about my day. That's why i have so few customs up right now, but i have three projects going right now that are not simple upgrades, but ground up customs. I did the para-viper initially as a project for myself. I wanted to do one, but my son became so enamored with it that he wanted all of his done in the same manner, so i did his too. I used this upgrade as a proving ground for myself to see how difficult things were, how much time it takes, and see what my limits were. I didn't want to take on too much. The next custom i'm going to post, major work will begin when i get my dremel took tomorrow, will be a familiar character re-imagined from the ground up for my own "universe." It's the first in a series of many that I hope to do.

no, no, thank you for the 500 word write up... i think there are a lot of us who aren't really customizers but see the potential in this fig and want to give it a go... the big write up is extremely helpful. Thanks!
