It's like owning a GI Joe time machine. I'd be interested to see how the new figs stand up to this test.

I'd bet the new figures hold up alright.
In the original thread, it looked like they threw just about everything in there to test. Rubber items, plastic, vintage, new.........I'm willing to try it. I doubt that 3% solution would work.

In the original thread, I think there was a guy who tried the 3% with some limited success, but I'm not certain.
This method isn't perfect as you can see from the pics. It did seem to remove some of the color from the stripes on Recondo's legs (most likely because they were handled more from being played with) as opposed to the same color on his watch and waist. Honestly though, I think it would not bother me as much losing a little bit of paint, as opposed to it being as yellowed and heat damaged as it was. I checked the parts this morning after washing them off last night to remove the solution, and they seem to be fine. The joints are a bit tighter for the most part, and the plastic feels very clean, as opposed to the slightly slick feel that well handled figures seem to have. As I said before, I'm just happy I'll be able to fix a couple of those expensive figures in my collection who have yellowed over time instead of replacing them. Also, in terms of education, I think that anyone who has seen the end results of the process in person would be able to see the difference between a super clean (but slightly playworn) figure and a regular minty-mint one with super tight joints and all that. I hope that this doesn't end up fueling some stupid pointless paranoia like everything else that has come along in the hobby (cast replacement parts, knockoffs, etc...). |

Do you know if it's possible that it could whiten canopies such as a one for the Skystriker. Mine had discolored to a yellow glaze. Any chance that this is possible to make the item crystal clear?

I have to, it's a full time job these days.
As for the canopy, I'm not certain, but if I had to guess I'd say yes. It won't do anything for any scratches or scuffs, but I'd bet it would remove the discoloration. |
