The G.I. Robot is the name of a series of fictional robots that appeared in comic books published by DC Comics. J.A.K.E. 2 first appeared in Weird War Tales #113 (July 1982), by Robert Kanigher and Fred Carrillo.
The G.I. Robot AKA "Jungle Automated Killer - Experimental #2" AKA J.A.K.E. 1 fought on various Pacific islands, including Dinosaur Island. It later teamed with the Creature Commandos until it sacrificed itself to save them. A newly created J.A.K.E. 2 was soon made. It and the Creature Commandos were presumed killed when the rocket they were riding to Berlin misfired and headed into deep space (Weird War Tales #124). The Creature Commandos are known to have survived, but J.A.K.E. 2's fate is unknown. The G.I. Robots are all fully autonomous mechanical soldiers, capable of making decisions and adapting to changes in their environment. J.A.K.E. 2 responds to spoken commands as well as the sound of weapons fire and machines. J.A.K.E. 2 is also an armor plated model. his left arm consists of a fully functional machine gun, which can fire bullets, mini-torpedoes, a flamethrower and small anti-aircraft missiles. They can also fly for short distances thanks to small rockets in their boots. I am using the head of a Techno-Viper as a starting point. Not a bad likeness, huh? I dremeled off the attached helmet that the Techno-Viper head has, funny thing is... once I dremeled into it just a lil, I was able to almost peel off the back of the helmet. It appears that it is a seperate piece that was glued onto the head of this figure. It was an easy job, compared to some dremel work I've done. I still need to sand it down to make it smooth, but you get the point. And then, I plan on using the helmet that came with that Captain America WWII figure from the movie line. I really like the way the straps hang down and it's era appropriate (which I like). There's something about the WWII era uniforms that I love so much. And then, because it's New Year's Eve and I got a busy day ahead of me, I just popped it on a 25th Breaker body real quick, just to see how it looked. His head appears a bit bigger that I'd like, so I might try to find a more barrel chested figure so his robot jaw doesn't jut out too much! Any suggestions? Since I cannot seem to find a chest piece that is suitable, I decided to create a Modern GI Robot instead. I may revisit this project in the future to make a WWII era J.A.K.E., but for now, he's stuck in the present, working for the GI Joe team!

I also wanted to mess around with some bits I had and wanted to show J.A.K.E. in action! I always loved that his hands themselves were weapons!
So, I took a shot with and without a flash, just to see!

Hah! I like it! Nice job, and yeah, the Techno Viper head is a near-perfect fit.
I would call him GI Joebot, however.

I like where it's going, but I'd find a different M1 steel pot. The Capt. A one isn't a very good representation.
The Viper torso (unfortunately) has been my go-to for figures that need a pre-BDU era fatigue shirt. Last edited by Konigstiger; 09-12-2012 at 05:50 PM.. |

AWESOME idea!
I'm stealing it (and giving proper credits of course ) The Tech viper head is almost perfect indeed!. Btw, the 25th Shipwreck torso might suit that first pic. You could do some sculpting on the neck/chest, or simply paint silver.

I had those comics, now you need to make an elongated neck for the issue he fought a samuria robot.
Great custom, I want one. |

Would LOVE to try the creature commandos, also, but Medusa's hair scares me since it would have to be sculpted!
Thanks for the suggestions! I will absolutely do a few more of these in different styles since I have a lot of BAT arms!
