I have always been a huge fan of the MOBAT, and it has always been the primary armor for my Joes. There is of course the "riding high" issue, which has always been bothersome to me going all the way back to childhood.
One can simply punch out the bottom of the cupola piece - however the cupola is the switch and there is virtually no clearance under the cupola piece, and to complicate matters worse, the only screw that holds the cupola in and thereby the entire turret, is on the bottom. If one wanted to extend down one would have to gut the motor drive and switch housing; and on a childhood MOBAT with a conked out motor this is precisely what I did. The 25th figures ride even higher; however double knee articulation and ankle articulation present new options. By using offset windows in the front and back of the cupola (see pics) the legs can fold using an absolute minimum of internal space. The fig can go more realistically down to the armpits. The drive function is completely preserved and (for all you purists out there) only one piece has to be cut. you can procure an extra for the mod easily and keep the uncut. I first performed this on another non-functioning original MOBAT where I worked out the bugs. The first perfect one was my 15th anniversary MOBAT over the summer. I have now done a few of the UBP MOBAT's and this is why I am now posting, with so many MOBAT's in our midst. I can vouch for the efficacy of this mod on all generations of MOBAT. I caution about the ankle holster and boots that are present on a standard Steeler. They require the removal of a great deal of plastic and can compromise strength. The more limited ankle articulation also can present some difficulty and it is recommended that a custom Steeler, with standard 25th Joe boots, is used.
