Well I got the Fang/Claw set and that candy color Viper is just awful. I just gave him a promotion. I wanted someone to be the "leader" of my vipers. I was just going to leave him in the box to rot so what the heck. This is my first time doing a repaint so be kind (don't look too closely!). There is no "joe-verse" for this guy's colors - I just made it up as I went. I wanted to keep true to the Cobra colors - red, black, blue - but other than that I just did what felt natural.
I used Tamiya grey primer spray on the whole body one side at a time since I did not take him apart. I primed everything but the guns (of course I sprayed the goggles, pack, vest and head separately). I used Pollyscale, Games Workshop, Vallejo, and Tamiya paints. Unfortunately they are a little softer than some paints so the joints at the elbow and knees get scraped clean when I move him. So I won't move him much. Problem solved. Now to quote the famous Bandito .... "New 5 pack Viper? I don't need no stinkin' New 5 pack Viper!!!!" I used a product called Bare Metal Foil to do the chrome on the faceplate. You can get it very cheaply at any good hobby shop. You need a super sharp - new - exacto blade to cut/trim the self adhesive foil cleanly. I don't have any new blades left so it looks a little rough around the edges. Also, my sheet of BMF is years old and is a bit faded. I plan to do it over when I get around to buying new blades and foil. I did a test application on a normal viper and wow, he looks much better too. I have some other foil that is real mirror finish like the stuff Hasbro uses, but honestly, I think that's way too toy-ish or fake looking. I like the somewhat muted version better. I also fixed his wrists. It's the one thing that really bugs me about this fig. I cut his hands off at the very edge of the glove at the wrist, then removed a small angled section of his arm, then used CA super glue to re-attach the hand. Done. Another reason I don't need that stinkin' new 5 pack. In the course of spraying I lost the Cobra mark on the vest, but I wanted to put something different there anyway. So I picked one that should be a good symbol of his new Commander rank. I also added some clear filler to the goggles over red paint to simulate lenses. I used Microscale Crystal Clear Window Maker / Clear Parts Cement. I recommend it to anyone who wants to glue things together without damaging the paint (ie: goggles on the helmet) since it dries clear. It's also ideal for making windows, and gluing together clear parts (like on car/plane models). In the end to do highlights I used Tamiya Weathering Master. The guns and Cobra symbol on the stand were done with the gunmetal and silver shades without any painting. So there you go. I hope you like it. All feedback is welcomed!

The sun came out! Yatta! I added three new pics that show off the color much better. Thanks for the good thoughts!

I love everything about this customs. The colors, the chrome, the hand fix. My only gripe, and it's minor, is the skin tone. Looks a little orangey. Could be the camera and flash combo though. I love the black and blue coloring on the clothes. He has a commander feel to him for sure. The only thing I'd change is to take away the standard Viper rifle. Leave him with the smaller one. It looks cooler on him.
