With the new war on terror, Cobra has determined that it needs to improve it's special operations capability to combat this increased threat.
Cobra has taken several steps to achieve its goal of having some of the most elite units in the world. First Cobra double the funding for its elite units. Second, was to dramatically increase recruiting around the world to find the very best personal. Last, was to consolidate all of the special units under one central command, the Special Amphibious Warfare (SAW) units. Cobra Commander chose one of his most experienced soldiers, Major Blood to head this new group. Blood was promoted to the rank of general, and given command of all Cobras’ special units. To increase each unit’s capabilities, all SAW units would have to complete a new course called, Basic Special Units Training. Training in this new course includes, basic land and amphibious small unit tactics, basic open water diving, and basic freefall jump training. SAW personal then proceed to their newly assigned unit’s specialty training. Along with new the training, Cobra has developed new equipment and vehicles specifically for SAW. Among the new vehicles are the Cobra Viper Fang helicopter, Lite Striker truck, and The Moray II. SAW determined that the three existing boats in Cobra’s inventory were insufficient to meet the new amphibious capabilities that General Blood demanded, so they set out to acquire boats to fill their requirements. The first new boat was a modified off the shelf RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) to serve as a platform to conduct ship boarding operations and a craft that could be airdropped from a Cobra C-130. There was also a need for a boat to serve as a high speed transport and attack boat. The Moray filled the gunship role, but was not well suited to support special maritime operations. It was decided to develop a new vessel from the ground up. The MARS Company was chosen to design the new vessel because of its proven track record of creating, or acquiring the latest technology. MARS looked at existing boats from around the world, and incorporated design elements from several military vessels. Because of the success Cobra had with the Moray, many of its design features were incorporated. Features were also taken from the US Navy’s Mark V. The new boat is constructed almost entirely out of composite materials for a lighter and stronger craft. The angles of the hull and upper deck, combined with the use of radar adsorbent materials, substantially reduces the vessels radar signature. To fill the role as a high speed transport, the boat is equipped with seating for six passengers, and was fitted with two 1650 HP water jet engines, that propels the boat to a top speed of 50 knots. Primarily operating at night, the craft is equipped with radar and infrared lights to acquire targets. Armaments include, one 50. Caliber MG in the top gun turret, gun positions on each side of the boat that can accept light and medium machine gun. MARS’ new close range radar guided anti-ship missiles are mounted in the forward deck. The new boat has proven itself to be the most capable vessel in Cobra's fleet. To support amphibious operations, SAW created the Crimson Boat Unit. This unit is tasked with operating the special boats used to conduct amphibious warfare. Members of this elite unit are selected from the Cobra Drivers. After completing the Basic Special Units Training, trainees are taught, inland waterways and open water navigation, small boat amphibious warfare tactics, operation and maintenance of all boats operated by SAW. Crimson Boat Unit capabilities include, inland waterways/open water patrolling and interdiction, gunship offensive attack missions, infiltration/exfiltration of amphibious forces. Because CBU personal go through both jump and diving training, the unit can operate with all SAW units anywhere, anytime.

One of the primary missions of the Crimson Boat Unit is to support special amphibious operations.
Deploying EELs to conduct underwater reconnaissance. Picking up Snow Serpents after completing a clandestine operation. Pulling ParaVipers from the ocean after they jumping in from a Cobra C-130. Last edited by stburr91; 11-29-2008 at 02:31 PM.. |
