Ok gotta start by stating three things:
1. Dredd ,along with 2000 AD comics as a whole, has always been a personal favorite of mine. I grew up reading these comics. Still love them. 2. I can't post this without saying Iron Will's recent Dredd custom is by far the best I have ever seen, and my all time fav of all his customs. Although this is a completely different take and recipe I would be lying to say his Dredd didn't totally inspire me to redo my Judge Dredd. 3. I am stoked about the new Dredd film. In fact it's probably my most looked forward to film left this year. Looks like they nailed the source material this time around. Ok now on to the fig. I wanted to get that mean gritty Dredd. I went along the lines of the Dredd Vs. Aliens run. This all kind of started as an experiment with the head, and I'm pretty happy with the fig overall. I have some touchups to do and I want to add some details and elbow guards yet as well. I am also working on revamping my Johnny Alpha as well. I will include a WIP pick of that head soon too. Let me know how he looks guys, and as always thanks Parts: Head= mash of MU constrictor and Retaliation Cobra Commander Body= MU Namor with heavy mods and sculpting (all the pads and armor) Lower legs= Cobra Commander Last edited by ROBULUS; 07-26-2012 at 01:41 AM.. |

As a massive longtime Dredd/2000AD fan I always love to see any customs inspired from the material. You've done a great job here so far, cant wait to see the finished project andf I agree 100% about the new film

if stallone wouldve kept the helmet on, i feel there'd been zero gripes about his Judge Dredd. well, okay, maybe rob schneider. but heres a list of things there were absolutely great about sly's version...
the armor...tweaked for ''reality'' but still pretty faithful. incorporating the pads into a football pad type of contraption was a pretty good idea. mega city one...much more futuristic than the one were getting in Dredd 2012. granted out of a nuclear war, one wouldnt expect nearly as much advanced tech as you get in the comics. Rico...granted he landed on a street rather than Titan...still...armand asante chewed that scenery for all it was worth. LAAAAAAAW! ABC warrior...okay, not necessarily a part of Dredd, but a nice touch from the 2000AD universe. Mean Angle...if you even try to deny how slick that make-up job was, you watched the wrong movie. cursed earth...is that even showcased in the new dredd? sure didnt see a wall around Meg-one in that trailer. the council of judges...maybe in the new one, but doesnt seem so. the silly block names...might get that in dredd. hope so. BLOCK WAR! nuff said. chopper's smily face on the statue of liberty...now thats homework! fergie...yeah, schneider sucked, but fergusen is a real dredd character...just a tad different. lawmaster...not quite what one would consider accurate, but the design was changed for safety reasons. they tried the big tires, but couldnt get them up to safe enuff standards, especially rounding corners. the new dredd bikes look like crap. MC1 vehicles...futuristic to the extreme...have you looked at the 1985 vehicles from Dredd? where it is logical that the vehicles would be regular cars...tech would probably suck after an apocalypse war...it just doesnt look right for a Judge Dredd tale. Hershey....yeah...she would never get away with kissing Dredd in the comics...but hey...Diane Lane was HOT! "These blocks...are under...arrest!"...classic Joe, arresting hundreds of perps at once! having been a fan of Dredd's since about 1988...im really looking forward to the new movie.........but if you sit back and really look at Judge Dredd '95...there was a lot in that movie that any Dredd fan should appreciate....just gotta get over the helmet issue. two things theyll both get wrong? no walter and no mawia! boo. |

I'll agree with many of your points Gung Heaux. For what it was Judge Dredd was a decent 90's hollywood action movie version of the universe. It was pretty much the mold back then. In fact it holds up better than some of Sly's other flicks I'd say. That being said the new one looks 10x grittier and less campy. The helmet stays on. Rob Schnieder was the worst thing to happen to Dredd, and he will be nowhere near this film. Also writer/ producer Alex Garland (who I am a huge fan of) stated if it does well enough the sequel would in fact expand to cursed earth and the council as well the possibility of Judge Death in a 3rd film. Sign me up. But like I said I still watch the old one too.It has a worse rep then it deserves. That doesn't mean I cant hope for a better one. I liked Tim Burton's Batman films alot, but Nolan's saga is still better. That's how I look at it
