After seeing the "Hasbro Concept Vault" posted this weekend, one guy stood out to me that looked awesome...
This guy: The "Ninja Ghost Henchman". Yesterday I got a hair up my ass and put together a custom loosely based on the concept figure, basically just using what I had on hand. Parts List: Montezuma's Tomb skeleton head 3-pack Ninja Showdown hat 25th Storm Shadow body/arms/feet/etc. Tunnel Rat chest strap "Ruby Eye": cut from a silicon dimension sticker (basically a rhinestone) I trimmed the bottom of the hat so you could see his head better and used a little piece of double stick foam tape to hold it in place. Why did I add an "eye"? Well, since there was no file card or explanation behind the original concept ghost ninja henchman, I figured I'd create my own little back story... -- Cobra has never shied away from using WHATEVER means necessary to defeat the Joes and the supernatural and/or the dark arts are not beneath Cobra Commander. Through Storm Shadow's connections, Cobra learned of a long abandoned temple high in the Himalayas which served as a superb clandestine base for Cobra missions in the far east. Little did the Cobra Troops stationed there know that deep within the bowels of the temple lay a dark and terrible secret. It wasn't until communications were lost with the temple outpost that the incensed Commander dispatched Storm Shadow and several squads of Vipers to check on what undoubtedly was meddling by those pesky Joes. Much to the surprise of the first team of Vipers when they arrived that all of the previously stationed Cobra troops were all missing and the only signs that anyone had been there at all were ominous dried pools of blood. It wasn't until Storm Shadow arrived to take command of the situation (the Vipers were too spooked to enter into the darkened halls of the eerily deserted temple) that he recognized tell tale signs of a fierce battle between conventional weapons and ancient tools of the Ninja. When Storm Shadow entered the Temple, a physical shudder reverberated through the structure. Not deterred, Storm Shadow proceeded through the passageways until he found one lone torch burning next to massive door that curiously had never been mentioned in the brief of the temple's layout. Storm Shadow reached for the handle to the door and it miraculously opened unassisted! His senses on full alert, Storm Shadow crept down the tunnel that reeked of stale air and corruption. Finally he entered into a large chamber illuminated by ethereal light that seemed to have no point of origin. Storm Shadow gazed around amazed because floor to ceiling the room was perforated with holes... that were tombs! In the center of the crypt was a large basin and in it appeared to be a massive pile of rubies. Before it was too late, several of the Viper team (which had cowardly allowed Storm Shadow to lead the way up to this point) greedily ran past Storm Shadow towards the precious stones. Storm Shadow briefly pondered teaching the fools a lesson with his katana but before he could act, one of the Vipers had reached out and snatched a handful of rubies. A rumble went through the entire temple, shaking loose centuries of dust and debris from within the crypt raising up a cloud that obscured most of the room. Stunned into immobility, the Vipers by the jewels didn't have a chance to react when the a sudden volley of arrows came slicing through the dust cloud penetrating deep into their flesh, killing them instantly. Storm Shadow immediately took a defensive position awaiting the unseen assailants to emerge from their cover and be dealt with. The still breathing Vipers behind him nervously cocked their rifles and prepared to open fire at the slightest move. Suddenly, several figures bounded out from behind the diminishing dust cover and immediately engaged the Vipers. They actually jumped OVER Storm Shadow to attack their targets, which the experienced Ninja instantly recognized as a fellow tactic of Ninjitsu. The Vipers fired at point blank range at the figures... To no avail. What should have torn a normal man to shreds did nothing to slow the advance of the tomb's inhabitants. Their weapons, consisting of the tools of the Ninja -Yaris, Katanas, Kamas, etc. sliced through the Vipers with deadly accuracy. The Vipers, as they were being mercilessly cut down, were horrified at the sight of their attacker's visages... Skinless toothy grins of bare skulls and rotting flesh of eons of decay! Their hollow eye sockets stared without eyes, save for one ruby lodged in each of the specter's heads. As the last Viper fell, Storm Shadow prepared for a much harder effort than his ill-fated comrades had feebly put forth but as the ghouls turned towards him, they stopped at the sound of a disembodied voice that echoed through the chamber of death: "Yoooou... You arrrre one of ussss..." The sound hissed and crackled and as Storm Shadow looked on in astonishment, another figure stepped out from behind the treasure filled basin. This figure was wearing a traditional Ninja tunic (as were the other creatures that had dispatched the highly trained Cobra Vipers) and was just as decrepit as the others. He -it- spoke again, "Memmmber of the Arashikage Clannnn... Welcommme to the tomb of yourrr brethrennn...! Weee were ressssting in slumberrr beforrrre foolsss like thessse awoken us with theirrr greed. Little did they knowww that only a soul that is of the descendent of the Arashikage and theirrr relativessss can walk among usss and be allowed to breath..." Storm Shadow (reluctantly) began a conversation with the creature and learned that they were members of a dark clan of ninja that had taken up dark magic and found the key to immortality... at a price! Their physical bodies could no longer act on their own and only each warrior's spirit had been interred into one of the stones which a deamon had tricked them into believing would allow them to live forever. They must all stay within the walls of the Temple bound to the spot by a spell that only allowed them to emerge unless their cache of Soul Rubies were in jeapordy... or if a true decedent of their clan invoked their wrath by placing one of the jewels into the head of a intombed warrior within the catacombs. One such relative was none other than Storm Shadow himself! Storm Shadow realized the power that these cursed beings held and later spoke with Cobra Commander to inform him on the situation. Delighted at the prospect of an undead army (that he didn't have to pay or feed), completely dismissing the squad of recently sliced and diced Vipers and the other troops that the Soul Ruby Ninja had destroyed ("Meh, expendable imbeciles!"), the Commander ordered Storm Shadow to gather up the Rubies and the copses to be deployed at once. He was not so delighted when Storm Shadow informed him that the ghostly ninjas couldn't be transported and that they did possess a weakness: If the ruby in the eye socket of a Ghost Ninja were dislodged during a battle, the physical body of the warrior would disintegrate. Not to be dissuaded so easily, Cobra Commander immediately devised a plan to lure the Joes to the Temple and unleash his undead army in a surprise attack. The Ghost Ninja Henchmen would prove useful after all...! --- So yeah, that's the back story I literally just made up. Slow work day before going on vacation, I guess. |

Great job! That "Ghost Ninja Henchman" jumped out at me too when revealed. Love Hasbro's color scheme of turquoise & silver and how it's geared up. Looks like something straight out of a 1970's kung fu/horror movie hybrid. I like your kitbash- especially the ruby eye. Nice touch. I still can't decide from the photos if Hasbro uses a new headsculpt or the Montezuma Skeleton's head...

A little bit of advise, " I got a hair up my ass" is a little too much TMI we need to know.
Otherwise, good work on bringing a canceled figure to life (or plastic).
