This is a tribute to the 90's comics, not the movie. While the movie was faithful to the Martians from the original card series, I hate that Burton made it into a "dark comedy".
I have to say that I think this is one of the best customs I've made so far...although my wife says that spot is still held by zombie Abe Lincoln. It went off much as I planned with some last minute choices that ended up adding to the look. -Dr. Rex body with extended lower legs -Tomahawk extended arms -modified Shadow Tracker head -Matt Trakker harness -classic Televiper backpack -SW Ep.1 accessory pack rifle -Star Trek reboot belt -Star Wars Quinlon Vos pistol The mantel that the helmet rests on was built up using miliput while the hoses and regulator were from other figures. And yes, the helmet is supposed to look flat on the top, that's how they were illustrated in the 90's comic, and luckily I happened to have something that was perfect for this. The reason why I extended the arms and legs was that I wanted him to be tall and lanky, but even with this he's only a smidge taller than an average Joe figure. Looks awesome! I remember the comics and cards before the movie came out.
I can't find the cap to my hair spray, though... |

Thanks for all the kind words. If the parts were easy to find in multiples, I'd build a squad of these guys. |

Ah, wonderful! I love the trading cards and, of course, the 90's comics. I've only seen the cards on-line and it's been so long since I've read the comics that I had to resort to on-line photo searches for that art.
I really want to do a female "damsal in distress", a partially disintegrated human soldier or perhaps a dog getting blasted to bits. |
