A lot of the stock 25th/30th Joes just don't really cut it the way they are straight from the factory.
These are really simple fixes that anyone can do with some painting and minor parts swapping. My painting skills suck, but I commissioned a good acquaintance of mine (who runs this site: Prometheus Rising Studios) to help me out with that. A lot of these customs involve ideas "borrowed" (i.e. stolen) from other more inspired Hisstankers. First up are Wet-Suit/Leatherneck Wet-Suit uses the usual parts swaps, but for the forearms, I found the ROC Hawk figure parts to be too small, so I used 25th Mainframe. Leatherneck is a Brazil-Con body and a repainted Mutt vest. The Brazil-Con Leatherneck was so close to ARAH-accurate (including the colors and gear)--all it needed was the proper vest. A simple head swap (unmasked Beachhead) + hat from Alyosha.
The head from the new Joe Club Footloose would be a better fit, I think, but I didn't want to take apart that figure, for obvious reasons. Last edited by gingaio; 02-02-2022 at 04:12 AM.. |

The stock head is terrible.
The helmet from Raginspoon is fantastic. A dash of paint on the visor fixes all (along with a Mutt head). Last edited by gingaio; 02-02-2022 at 04:12 AM.. |

The armor's a bit Mad Max, but the Hasbro version really sucked. At least this one is more in line with what the other Dreadnoks (Thrasher, Road Pig) are wearing.

Had to dremel the inside top part of the helmet (from Alyosha) to make it sit properly on the head (Mutt again).

Nice to see my helmet go to good use. I actually never saw how the cast looks cause I took a different direction on my Slipstrem custom after I submitted that to Alyosha. Your mods are nice. I wish I had that Leatherneck.

Thanks, nighthawk, and I guess I should thank you for that helmet, too. It makes such a huge difference to have these RAH-accurate parts available. While I'm at it, thanks to Superdaver for supplying Alyosha with some much-needed vintage-styled backpacks. I can't wait to get the one for Shockwave.
With these figs, most of the credit has to go to my friend. He's got serious toy-painting skills and did a hell of a job matching paints (Wet-Suit's neck and Serpentor's chest strap (which was originally yellow)). But yeah, that Leatherneck is now one of my favorite figures in the collection. I always liked his outfit and it killed me that Hasbro could never get it right. Some very cool updates! I especially like the Wetsuit... The Whiteout head is a good call on that one!

Thanks, Shakka!
I always loved the vintage Motor Viper, and I didn't even realize Hasbro had released a modern update until recently. Of course, Hasbro's version is basically an unpainted figure with a clear visor. Thanks again to my friend at Prometheus Rising Studios for handling paint duties. I have no idea why Hasbro would go out of its way to produce a completely faithful Motor Viper and not paint it and bury it in a movie-related vehicle set. Another very easy fix that I'm sure has been done a million times.
