Nope not me, I live in Elk River. I grew up in Long Prairie (56347), so when I saw you were from Minny and the 56... I figured it might be a zip code as some guys use their area code as part of their screen name. Plugging 56201 into mapquest confirmed the rest.

I actually painted (or was part of the crew that painted)the outside of the McDonalds(off the freeway, next to KFC) in Elk River back in '00. Anyways...thanx for the compliments, guys. It makes taking all those pictures, editing said pics, and uploading em to the net worth it. Quote:
Basically, you have to already be handy with sculpting. I've been modding figures since I was a kid, so it comes naturally to me. I have a few techniques that I'll try to explain. I start by taking off any excess plastic impeding the movement. Once that's done, I use the X-acto to take off VERY small peices of plastic until it starts to look rounded. Then I sort of scrape the blade against the surface of the plastic until it starts shaving it, and smoothing the surface out. Follow that with some 800-1000 grit sandpaper and finish it off with some plastic polish to shine it back up again. Like I said before, it helps to have a model(a figure with articulation that's similar, but functional) in front of you to serve as a guide. It can be very frustrating and time consuming. It really requires alot of perfectionism and patience. Last edited by phil56201; 10-26-2008 at 11:03 PM.. |

Where do you get plastic polish? How much does it cost?
Great figures, much improved from the originals. |

Thanks
I checked that out, which # polish do you use? What dremel bit do you use? Sorry to keep questioning. |

I use #2. It also works great for restoring scrathed CD's, so I def get my $'s worth.
As for the dremel bit, I've just been using a standard sanding drum, and a rounded cutting bit. Most of the work I do is by hand, I just use the dremel to get rid of large portions of plastic, and to get rounded edges. |

Just to chip in, those are great examples of fixes; I've tried to do similar things with cobra troopers and duke arms, but yours look a lot better; you can hardly tell they've been modded. thanks for the tips!
