So I am in the middle of attempting to add De Aco to my army, but I am having trouble when applying the yellow paint. All other colors went on no problem but the yellow is wanting to clump and not go on evenly. Is yellow just a pain in the ass? I hope I am making sense. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Note: This is my first custom. Attached is an image. The paint I am using is Tamiya Color acrylic based and is Flat Yellow. Thanks guys/gals

Well first off I hope you prepared the surface though it seems you did.
Tamiya is usually not the brand of choice for most customizers I haven't heard anything good about it. It might be the black is too dark a color for it to display properly but I don't think that's the case. Maybe testors yellow acrylic might do the job better. |

someone mentioned they did a brown base-coat over a figure and then the yellow worked fine. I did about twenty or more thin coats of yellow (I just use the cheap wal-mart stuff) on Gnawgahyde's jacket giving plenty of drying time between coats. Eventually it stayed yellow (he's down in the lower right corner)

Try Testor's enamel (yes, I know everyone says to stay away from enamels) Zinc Chromate. Betcha it works.

i use a flat light gray coat first then apply the yellow. It works fine with me. I sometimes use the plaid acrylic paint and sometimes use the testor acrylic. The only difference I see is the drying time....I dont know but tested it and even painted half with half and the only thing i notices was the drying time. As for durability, just the same for me. Good luck! great work!

In my modeling days, Tamiya was good stuff but we usually used primers, too... and also usually airbrushed.
Is it old stock? Clumping is usually not a good sign. |

Games Workshop has a new line of foundation paints that supposedly make painting light colors easy. I use the grey primer method for yellow, it worked but I had to do a few coats.
