I think he'd go the highest bidder, but would eventually work for the Joes out of necessity. I don't think his tactics would mesh well with Cobra's (who would probably be the highest bidder). Similar to the way Destro ended up working with the Joes in the comic a lot.

A Joe. But he would be on-again off again depending on who he was ticked off at. He couldn't work for Cobra becaue CC is too much of a shmuck and Snake would end up shooting him.

Snake would be his own man. He'd have his own agenda to fix the world as he sees it. Sometimes that would coincide with the Joes and sometimes it wouldn't. He wouldn't join Cobra or work with them. But then he wouldnt' always be a friend to the Joes either.
Basically he shows up and you have no clue what he's going to do.

I'd definitely put him on the good guy side or Joes. He's only like he was in the movies because the country he was dedicated to went sour. In the Joe-verse, that's not really applicable.
You could fit him in as having been a victim after a bad op or two and now works as a mercenary with a cranky attitude, but he'd still lean towards good causes. I don't think he'd really go for the ruthless terrorism part of things just for profit. If you like backstory, I just had a flash of inspiration: In 1997, Lieutenant S. D. Robert Plisskin, code name: Snake, and his unit, Black Light were activated to rescue the President. Their briefing indicated Air Force One had been hijacked by Cobra and forced to crash. The President survived in his life pod and the tracking system he wears indicated he had been recovered and moved to Leningrad. The event was being covered up to prevent a panic, so no media reports had been seen. Sending GI Joe into that area was out of the question, so Black Light was called up to do the job under the radar. They were to infiltrate a facility in Leningrad, rescue the President, and take out the Secret Service agents that were identified as the Cobra operatives. The mission was less than successful. Bad intel lead to casualties for Black Light, the deaths of innocent Secret Service agents, and a destructive battle with the Oktober Guard. It was later discovered that the entire op was a ruse intended to cover something else up... but what that was remained a mystery. Disgusted, Plisskin quit the military soon-after and eventually found himself working as a mercenary. After the Leningrad Ruse, he remained distrustful of the government, but couldn't bring himself to join the more radical or terrorist military groups out there, especially groups like Cobra, no matter how much they paid. When one of his ops put him up against GI Joe, he wasn't ready to take out American soldiers who were just as likely to have been played as he was before... until he heard they were getting orders from Hawk. Mistaking the intercepted communication to indicate they were working under orders from Hauk, the man who set him up earlier, he remained in the conflict and proved to be a significant threat to the GI Joe mission... Snake was nearly successful until he discovered the truth about General Hawk. It was then he teams up with the Joes and was instrumental in "saving the day." Snake is still distrustful of the government, but he maintains his own ideals under gruff mannerisms. If there's a big mercenary job out there that needs the best, and your cause is on the lighter side of moral grey... Snake Plisskin is the man you want to hire. i think ultimately snake is for the little guy. He doesnt care much for governments so I don't think he'd be a joe but i don't think he would be a cobra either...I think if push came to shove whoever was for freedom...TRUE freedom...he would side with.

Escape From New York is such an underrated masterpiece of American cinema.
I love that film, and have the 2 disc special edition that was released a few years ago. While it is darker than Big Trouble In Little China, it's an awesome science fiction film. I love the music, and have to agree that Snake would be on his own side. While he is the anti-hero (Hero who would prefer to not be one), I think that he would help GI Joe, but avoid any long-term contact with them. I can't quite see him siding with Cobra. Remember, Snake turned to a life of crime because of the oppressive government. Snake doesn't strike me as the type that would do that under normal circumstances. By the way, that is one hell of an awesome custom!!!!!! I wish that Hasbro would pay attention to stuff like this. I mean, if we are getting Matt Trakker, why can't we get Snake Plissken, Jack Burton, Robocop, '89 Batman, Rambo, COL Trautman, Jayce and his Wheeled Warrior vehicle and Bravestarr in the 3.75 inch GI Joe line???? Copyright issues, I know, I know!!!! |
