I had a fun idea about what to do with the partially-masked head that came with the "Temple Guardian" Snake Eyes figure.
The original Marvel GI Joe comics established that there was a fated connection between Snake Eyes and the Baroness prior to the formation of the Joe team. I used this as inspiration for a modern "re-boot" of the Snake Eyes back story. Just as the "A-Team" movie relocated their background from Vietnam to Iraq, I thought it would be interesting to make a custom Snake Eyes as a modern special forces machine gunner. Facing off against Snake Eyes is The Baroness, in desert fatigues. We know from the 80s Joe mythology that the Baroness had a history as a radical and upstart before rising up in Cobra, and that her backstory with Snake Eyes was used to set up the crucial "Snake Eyes Trilogy" story arc in the comics. In my modern take, the story is very much the same, with an encounter between the future Joe and Cobra operatives, somewhere in the Middle East or South Asia. My "reboot" version of the Baroness is geared up for desert subterfuge, with a little design inspiration from Shepard Fairey. How they were made: Snake Eyes--ROC Dusty body & backpack, Marauder tac vest and SAW, head from Temple Guardian Snake Eyes. Baroness--ROC Cover Girl body, ROC Paris Pursuit Baroness head, Marauder AK-47, head wrap is from the Star Wars "sandstorm" Luke Skywalker, satchel from ROC Tunnel Rat. Both figures were finished with acrylics, airbrushed, details were hand-painted. It should also be noted that I'm going to be making "GI Joe: Modern Origin" versions of Stalker and Tommy "Storm Shadow" Arishikage in similar desert attire! Thanks for checking these out!
