Part 127 (continued): Destiny
After Snake Eyes rescued the Rebel Angel Cover Girl, he heard a voice call out to him. “We meet at last brother.” Snake Eyes clutched his riffle and pointed it precisely in the direction of the voice. And with a metal chink sound, a throwing star suddenly lodge its way into the barrel of the gun. He looked up. There was a man dressed in a fashion he had never seen before, but felt intimately familiar with. The mysterious man said to him, “I’ve search for you far and wide. I have not unsheathed my swords in years because I have not found a worthy foe. I hope you do not disappoint me.” PLAY THIS SONG WHILE READING THE REST OF THE STORY: With their swords in hand, they each take a warrior stance of their own. Although his heart was pounding, Snake Eyes did his best to appear collected in the face of his enemy. He noticed this foe preferred two swords. They cautiously approach each other with every movement deliberately made, even their breathing. This foe gracefully raised one sword above his own head while the other was at waist level. Both swords were pointed directly at Snake Eye's heart. Snake Eyes immediately realized that his enemy was skilled by the way he stepped, the way he moved, the classic swordsman stance he took, and even the way this foe breathed. There was no doubt that this man was an assassin and that this would be the fight of his life. "I am Storm Shadow. I serve the Great Cobra Shogun of the Far East. By now, you must have realized that I am an assassin. Take a deep breath, and look upon your death." Snake Eyes wasted no time, he dashed towards the assassin. His sword clashed against the assassin's long sword as the assassin spun away and lunged the second sword directly towards Snake Eyes' throat. He arched his back and twisted his body as the second sword narrowly missed. Snake Eyes spun away with one hand on the ground and regained his footing only to find the assassin's first sword swiping down on him. His sword clashed once again with the assassin's sword as he defended the attack. The assassin was too close. Snake Eyes stepped back and spun away with his blade slashing through the air. He regained his footing again and was suddenly greeted with a swift kick from the assassin. The crushing blow pushed straight through his chest as his feet left the ground and his body hurled backwards through the air. Despite the debilitating blow, he managed to land on his feet still clutching his sword. He looked up in frustration. He wondered how it was possible for the assassin to move so fast. He sees the assassin just standing there calm and collected as if the assassin was mocking him. The assassin once again, slowly takes his classic swordsman stance. Snake Eyes had never met an opponent like this yet it all seemed familiar. Storm Shadow then said, "You've allowed your skills to dull brother. I've waited a long time for this. We have not met since our previous lives. It appears that the Gods see it fit to bring us together in this way time and time again, life after life for eternity . . . It is good to see you again, my only regret is that this meeting will be far shorter than I had hoped." Snake Eyes realized that this assassin is no stranger after all. They must have shared a past. But there was no time to reflect, the assassin charged him. Snake Eyes raised his sword. As the assassin charged, Snake Eyes saw how fast this man moved, the assassin raised his first sword over his own head again, and his second sword lunged towards Snake Eyes' heart. But suddenly, the lunging sword disappeared from view almost as if it suddenly became invisible. It then reappeared in his vision and was lunging at him from the opposite side of where he last saw it. It was as if this assassin possessed super natural powers and was able to blur his opponent's vision in combat. Luckily, his skills were not as dull as the assassin first surmised. Snake Eyes managed to spin away from the lunging sword and defended against the other sword. The swords clashed again. The sound was thunderous and sent rippling shock waves spreading out over the grassy field. The two were face to face just inches from each other with their swords pressing down on them from above. Snake Eyes was barely able to maintain a grip on his sword. He was terrified to discover that this opponent was as fast as he was, yet maintain total control and great strength. Just then, the assassin's other sword came slashed upward from underneath. Snake Eyes whipped his head back and spun around the assassin while swiping his own sword through the air. He looked up and somehow, the assassin was suddenly ten yards away from him. And he noticed something was wrong. His visor suddenly split in half and slowly fell from his head. He felt a warm sensation running down his face and the left side of his body. He was bleeding. The assassin had drawn blood. It was a savage wound. Storm Shadow, "You are careless with your attacks. You leave yourself open too often and you are not nearly as strong and fast as you think you are." Pain began seeping in. Snake Eyes realized immediately that this assassin was just like him. Their swords were nothing remarkable. There was no laser edge, no super alloy; they weren’t even made by precision machines. There was no technology whatsoever in their swords. In fact, their swords were hand made with an ancient technique lost to the world centuries ago. Yet in the hands of a certain few, these swords sliced through armor as if there was nothing there. And Storm Shadow effortlessly had opened a gash in Snake Eyes’ body armor. According to the ancient Cobra La (religious cult established by Alexander the Great that formed the backbone of Cobra) scripts, these two were considered Souls of Chaos. They were once angels who fell to Earth. The soul of Storm Shadow rebelled against the Gods and was caste away to Earth. According to the legend, Storm Shadow’s soul is cursed to be forever reborn on Earth and tormented by his own desire for violence. He has brought destruction to everything close to him since the beginning of time. The soul of Snake Eyes, once an angel is also cursed; however, Snake Eyes did not rebel against the ancient Gods. Snake Eyes was the angel brother of Storm Shadow. And when Storm Shadow was caste from the heavens to be cursed on Earth, the angel Snake Eyes voluntarily fell to Earth in order to save his brother. This displeased the ancient Gods. So they placed to curse on Snake Eyes as well. These two souls have no real memory of who they once were. They are forever doomed to face each other in brutal violence for all eternity. They will meet each other in blood long after all those around them die century after century. This was their destiny. Snake Eyes clutched his side with one hand while the other began to lose grip on his sword. He began to feel week. He began to fade from consciousness. His mind began to drift. Then he remembered his mission. It was to verify the identity of the Rebel Angels so they may link up with General Hawk’s forces to carry on their fight for freedom against tyranny. He looked over to Cover Girl, still lying in a pool of her own blood after the Royal Crimson Guard Dragoons ambushed them. His mission was to signal friendly forces to rendezvous with the Rebel Angels once he verified their identity; however, it was too dangerous as long as the assassin was still on the battle field. With the safety of his friends in mind, Snake Eyes gathered all his remaining strength and sharpened his mind. He refocused on the assassin, still standing there, ten yards away, calm and collected, and still mocking him. Snake Eyes gripped his sword with his both hands; one still covered in blood, and charged the assassin. As he charged, the assassin remained standing perfectly still. Snake Eyes cocked back his sword as he darted closer. The assassin remained perfectly still. And as he closed on the assassin, his vision began to blur and he lost sight of Storm Shadow completely. It seemed this assassin uses a technique that confuses his enemy’s vision to the point where the connection between the eyes and the mind are lost, and the enemy completely loses sight of him. Whether through speed of movement, or demonic super natural power, Storm Shadow was able to move about his enemies without allowing them to see him. Snake Eyes knew that it was impossible for the assassin to completely disappear into thin air. The assassin must still be nearby despite his inability to see him. So instead of attacking where the assassin was last seen, Snake Eyes slashed his sword at the opposite side, there was nothing there. Snake Eyes then spun around as close to the ground as he could move without falling and slashed his sword upwards through the air, this time he stuck the assassin’s sword with an ear piercing clash. Storm Shadow seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. Snake Eyes had attacked in the fastest and most erratic manner he could, yet the assassin defended the attack with little effort. The assassin leaped backwards another ten yards away. Storm Shadow, “You’re attacks and movements have become random and uncontrolled. You think I won’t be able to predict your attacks if they are erratic. You are wrong. I see everything my brother. I see you are losing your strength. I see you are full of fear. Fear not my brother. This is not the end for us. We will meet again in your next life.” The assassin once again takes a classic swordsman stance completely calm and collected and once again, mocking Snake Eyes. Snake Eyes realized the assassin was right. He was losing strength and he was fearful that this assassin would bring harm to his comrades in arms. He began losing focus again as his strength began to fade. His mind began to drift again and his life began to flash before his eyes. He thought of his years spent training. He thought of his ninja master’s final lesson. His ninja master had told him that one day he will encounter an opponent like no other, an opponent that may be faster, stronger and more skilled than he was. This opponent may be able see all and defend against all attacks no matter how fast they struck. And on this day, if this opponent gains the upper hand, there is still one last attack that may be useful. It requires perfect timing and for you to know your enemy. But the master warned that this attack will likely result in Snake Eye’s own death and it should be used only as a last resort. Snake Eyes’ mind suddenly drifted back to reality. He refocused his mind on the assassin. And without delay, Snake Eye’s charged the assassin once again. The assassin stood perfectly still. Snake Eyes darted towards him but this time was different. Snake Eyes was weak. He had lost too much blood. Snake Eyes spun around as he closed the distance with his enemy and that’s when it happened. Storm Shadow, “You left yourself wide open brother!” Before Snake Eyes could finish his spinning attack, the assassin charged forward and pierced both of his swords into Snake Eye’s back. The assassin pressed up against his enemy’s back as Snake Eyes’ arms fell lifeless to his sides. With both swords firmly stabbed into the back of his enemy, the assassin lifted the limp body of his foe and said, “You’ve disappointed me. I’ve looked forward to this day all my life. I’ve trained tirelessly for the day I would stain my swords with your blood. There wasn’t a single attack of yours that I did not see coming.” Just then, the assassin noticed something. Snake Eyes arms where both lifeless and fallen to his sides yet the sword was not in his hands and not on the ground. In fact, Snake Eye’s sword was nowhere to be found. The assassin then noticed something was wrong. He looked down onto Snake Eye’s back. There he saw both of his swords still firmly piercing his enemy’s back, but there was a third blade. This blade was black. This third blade ran through Snake Eyes’ back and into his own chest. Snake Eyes ran his sword through his own body knowing that the assassin would strike him from behind. The sword pierced through Snake Eyes’ body and into the assassin’s chest. It was the only attack the assassin could not see coming. The assassin released Snake Eye’s body and stepped back. Before fading away, Snake Eyes was able to signal all clear to his comrades. As blood gushed from his chest, Storm Shadow exclaimed, “You fool. You missed my heart. I’m still here. You cannot kill me so easily.” The assassin began to stumble away desperately gasping for air through his punctured lung as blood gurgled out of his mouth. As he made his way towards what he thought was safety, a voice cried out. The voice cried out for Snake Eyes. The assassin drew his swords and saw what appeared to be one of Snake Eyes’ comrades. This one also carried a sword. The comrade quickly approached Snake Eye’s body and caressed his lifeless body. The comrade looked up at Storm Shadow and wasted no time. The enraged comrade drew a sword and charged Storm Shadow. Storm Shadow cried, “You are dishonorable, you dare attack a wounded warrior!” The comrade ignored the assassin’s words and continued slashing the sword with extreme violence. Storm Shadow cried again, “Patience little one, I will return for your life another day.” Storm Shadow began to use his uncanny powers of stealth to elude Snake Eye’s comrade in an attempt to evade and escape. Although the wound inflicted by Snake Eyes was not fatal, it did weaken him. The comrade experienced the same thing that Snake Eyes did. The comrade’s vision suddenly blurred and the comrade completely lost sight of Storm Shadow. But one thing Storm Shadow could not have known was that this particular soldier did not rely on her vision to fight. To be continued.

Dude, your Rebel Angel SS is definitely worthy enough of a custom to go up against your stellar Rebel Angel SE. I'm really diggin' what you did here. The elements of feudal Japan and a post-apocalyptic look have been blended masterfully. The head sculpt is amazing! It looks like you might have re-sculpted the hair of a Renegades Duke figure, and of course, repainted it. Am I right?

ah no you didn't!
That is wicked. Nice work on the pads. It's a nice mix of modern stylings of tactical gear with the stylings of feudal japan. |
