Hi all! I decided to take the plunge into minor customization, and could think of nothing better to start with than a figure I had always wanted-- a female Strato-Viper.
When my little brother and I received Night Ravens from "Santa" on Christmas in 1986, we both thought the Strato-Viper was a girl, for some strange reason. This impression, later reinforced by the cartoon episode, "In the Presence of Mine Enemies", which featured the Female Strato-Viper, Raven, fueled my imagination. I used to exchange female Joe heads with Strato-Viper, producing less-than-desirable results. Fast-forward to current day, and with the advent of the modern era figures and CobraCollector's awesome female Strato-Viper recipe, I knew I had a chance to create a passable girl Strato-Viper as an addition to the Cobra Air Legions. While I used CobraCollector's recipe as a base, I decided to paint the figure, so as to match her color scheme as closely as I could with her male counterparts. Also, while I'm a fan of the Raven character, I wanted to do something different, and portray another Strato gal. After what seemed like an eternity looking for a head that wouldn't require much customizing to look like a unique character, I found an acceptable candidate in Susan Storm, from the current MU Fantastic Four 4-Pack. What I really like about this head choice is that she is blonde; a hair color seemingly lacking for females in the Joe universe. I decided to name her Gretchen. While I can certainly see areas where I could have done things better, overall, I'm pretty pleased with my first attempt at customization. I'm happy to have her in my collection. A big thank you to CobraCollector for coming up with the recipe, and to the writers and contributors of the various tutorials and threads in the customizing forums; my first custom figure wouldn't be half as good as it is without the knowledge I have gleaned here beforehand. Recipe: 25th Air-Viper – Lower legs, helmet, harness RoC Baroness – torso, arms, thighs MU Susan Storm – head Maurader HK USP – sidearm Paints: Citadel Chaos Black Citadel Adeptus Battlegrey Citadel Elf flesh Enough talk, here are the pics: |

Nice! I did the same recipe but I didn't paint. I used a POTC Elizabeth Swan head for mine.
Great job on yours. It's amazing what the paint does.
