Seeing as Hasbro has repeatedly said a Skystriker is not in the cards for the 25th line I decided to have a go at one myself.
Rather than tear up a vintage skystriker - I started with a Funskool one. I think the light gray color is a tad more realistic and I'd have a fresh base to work with. The labels are home made on my ALPS printer. For those of you not familiar with the ALPS printer - they can print in white. These are used ALOT for waterslide decals by custom model makers. I printed these to adhesive clear vinyl and went to town. I still have a few decals left to do (no step, walkway, etc.). This ability to print in white allowed me to do a couple custom details. Namely the black tailfins. The were etch primed and painted in semigloss krylon black. I also put on the pilot names in the black border as shown on the packaging. I always thought that was better than putting them on the windows. The wing decals were also printed with the white center strip (red, white, and blue you know). I'm not exactly pleased with them and I've already scraped them from moving the wings a couple times. I may completely redo the striping in paint or make new decals without the white. The red funskool missles were painted in etching primer and then a dark gray hot rod primer which gave a nice - not solid black look. I used an extra center tank from a vintage SS for durability. I'll clean it off and add replacement decals later. I still need to rework the seats to fit 25th figures. I'll probably do away with the peg and go with a Trouble Bubble style clip around the waist. A 25th peg wouldn't work for Ace anyway since his hole is covered by the helmet harness. -Gary |

Amazing work... I would love to be able to get my hands on a Funskool Skystriker to attempt this custom!

Hey that's very nice!
I have a vintage SkyStriker, my original that I repainted in a Flat Light Gray. Love the finish, but I always wanted to make my own new decals. What exactly is an ALPS printer? Expensive? Where to buy? Very good work! |

I e-mailed Ruben with no response - so I just made my own.

Have you given it any thought of selling stickers on you own. If so let me know I am going to be needing another set of Sky Striker stickers soon. |
