The original mold felt too Fisher-Pricey with the unconnected cockpit. It's bad enough that it has no windshield (i'll do that next). I know the electronics go there, but i've never been too fond of toys with sounds. In retrospect, i would run the light wires to keep the lights. Once i saw the pictures, i see that i need to even out the front seats a bit. I glossed over the seats to protect the paint, but it came out too glossy. The only reason i'm posting this now is to show what it looks like. What's left are little details that i'll get to eventually, but school has dragged this simple mod for months.
Cutting the plastic was not as easy as i thought it would be. I started to dremmel, but the plastic melts too quickly and start wrapping around the tip. I eventually opted for cutting pliers. The lights and sound is contained in one plastic encasement. The top of it contains the buttons and batteries, so i had to cut it free from the encasement to avoid a hole on the roof. I think i'll eventually put a turret where the batteries were. I also plan to put a winch over the ramp. Once the lights & sounds encasement is removed, i had to cut the supports for the encasement in order to glue the communications console against the wall. Then, i cut the center of the front seat to make an aisle connecting the cockpit to the cargo bay. I made the chair from a plastic frame from a printer cartridge and screwed it to the floor on one side, since i wanted it to rotate so that figures could ease into it. I also got rid of those cubes by the landing gear that were used to attach the body to the box. |
