Really loved the Hasbro Cartoon props in the DVD packs a few years back so started making my own props from other episodes of the cartoon.
One of my favorite episodes growing up was The Germ. In it a Crimson Guard is ordered to steal a specimen known as Bacteria X and an experimental growth serum for the Tomax and Xamot. Things go wrong and the serum gets mixed with the bacteria and G.I. Joe versus the Blob occurs. Anyway there was no way I was going to be able to create the huge Bacteria X so I settled for making a sample recovered from it as a prop for an eventual diorama. Bacteria X as seen consuming a Cobra Lab. Bacteria X Prop This was incredibly cheap to make. Its sculpted completely from hot glue. Took about 4 sticks of hotglue, they come in a hundred pack for about 5 bucks at walmart. Kept adding layers of hotglue till I got a shape I liked then xacto knifed it to fit its case. Painted it various hues of pinks and purples and a few paint washes of those colors as well. Put it in a d20 dice case and added a lcd touch light for the base that cost a dollar at Dollar Tree. Update Dec 28, 2011 Finally got Airtight. Also been making other Bacteria X's to experiment with. This particular one was also made with Hot Glue and is painted on all sides but bottom. Allowing light to pipe into the sculpt from the bottom causing a glow effect. Haven't found a light source small enough for this size yet so have to rely on bigger lights hidden beneath the display to light it. I've tried sculpting with several epoxies but after many attempts I really prefer hot glue for making these. The Hot Glue seems to be the best. It dries almost instantly so you can layer the sculpt easily. It also has natural forming bubbles and new layers melt and bond with previous layers in organic looking ways. That is awesome. This is the kind of customs that I like. There are people who do some great figures and vehicles but I am a big fan of these kind of things.

I don't often say this about eldritch abominations of science, but that's the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen.
I think I'll have to make one for myself. Well done! |
