I've always had a soft spot for the class of '89 and '90 Joes, so I've been trying to pick out some of them to update. I got this awesome Rampart head from SDS, and the more I looked at it, the more I thought it made sense for Rampart to be a desert trooper, with the cloth over his neck and longsleeved outfit (to block the sun). What's a "shoreline defender" anyway?
So, I cobbled together POC Rampart as a modern desert infantryman. His vintage filecard emphasizes his anti-aircraft role, so I gave him a rocket launcher as well. I want to add a shoulder strap to it but haven't figured out a good way yet. Hope y'all like him. Head: Slayer Designs Torso: ROC Pit Commando Arms: ROC Pit Commando Legs: POC Dusty Shemagh: POC Dusty Webgear: 25th Snake Eyes Backpack: POC Hawk Rifle: Marauder Rocket Launcher: POC Duke'

It looks really good this way but imo I think it would look a lot better in the original color scheme

I'm not too keen on the lighter blue/green highlighting on his cape/scarf (I'm an idiot and don't know the technical term, so forgive that) but everything else makes for a great updated Rampart.
To fix his belt, I'll be honest... I'd just clip the ends off at the pockets. The base belt on the "skirt" looks like it connects anyways. Besides that, the webgear is a pretty smart choice, and I like what you did with his colors (besides the aforementioned blue/green color). |

I think you missed one really important aspect of Rampart - he is a Navy man! His primary specialty is shoreline defense which is often a sandy atmosphere but not desert - but it is easy to see how you might go with desert based on his outfit and color choices. It would have made more sense - particularly with his branch of military - to give him a Navy pea coat instead of an army coat. I think his only major appearance was also in the desert - he drove Backblast in Counting Coup - so why not make him a desert trooper?
Shoreline defense actually is a real thing and was made a much bigger deal of following September 11, although Ramparts role makes less sense - maybe he was to be a rear guard for a SEAL team to protect them as they approached the shore?

Great update for an awesome Joe. Rampart was one of my faves from that era too, but like you I never thought "shoreline defender" was the best use for him. I was sad to lose a Navy guy from the Joe ranks but I repurposed him to my desert squad too. I have the head on order from SDS and I might steal some of your parts ideas. Really good work.
