Are Liquitex paints good for custom figures? I want to make a couple of custom figures and I would like to know if that acrylic paint brand is good for customizing. I don't access in my hometown to high brand acrylic paints like Tamiya, Citadel and Testors so my only choices are Folk Art, Delta Creamcoat, Apple Barrel and Liquitex.

Out of the choicees you mentioned, Liquitex would be the best brand. The first three are meant for "granny's country kitchen crafts". Liquitex is at least a good brand of "artist paint". Although I can't tell you from experience if it would work for the Joe customs very well. You might try ebay for Testors Model Master Acryl. I recently bought a 40 paint lot for about a 30% discount under retail (and that included shipping).

Wash your figure in warm soapy water.
Apply your paint in several thin coats. (Allow the paint to thoroughly dry between coats.) For additional protection, apply a clear coat. One of Jin Saotome's Tutorials Last edited by Bamphalas; 07-24-2008 at 10:43 PM.. |

no to liquitex. It's not designed to bind to any material other than wood based pulp and cloths. I've used them starting out because I had a huge stockpile of them, but there's virtually no way to keep it bonded, even when well primed. I used to paint hair with them because I can get a realistic style but I could never touch the head after....even with clear coat on it.
That's the main reason the hobby paints use a different binder than water and that's a good reason to stick to them. Apple Barrel bonds well, but I never cared for how it would dry thicker. It's still a good one if you can't find model paints. Delta seems to dry flatter which I like. |

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will buy at least one paint bottle of each color of the rainbow plus one white and one black.
