This is My Cobra Commander.
How do you guys get such good shots of your customs? I'm Also having trouble posting pics without them being atachments. I need help. The body is from an Indy Nazi fig, and the head, and arms are from the 25th CC. With as much Blue paint as I had to apply, should I use a clear coat? In person I can't see brush strokes ect.. He looks perfect to the naked eye (at least my naked eye. lol!) with much detail. Last edited by delta; 07-22-2008 at 11:38 PM.. |

That's a decent custom (from what I can see), but what figure is the body?
Edit: Nevermind. Didn't read the whole descrip. I didn't think Hasbro made Nazis for their indy line that looked that realistic. That's a hella good base for customs. |

For starters you are placing a dark figure against a dark background . Your camera is having difficulty focusing on the, because it it having trouble telling the difference between the subject and background. Try better lighting, backing away from the object as well as moving the object away from the background.
edit: from what I can tell though, it's looking pretty cool! I tried some of those things you suggested before, but to no avail. The camera I'm using works great for a family outing at the park, but not so hot for joes. Even the pics I take of joes from straight out of the package look 10 times worse than they do in person. |

Make sure that your camera has a Macros setting. It should look like a small flower. Also, try taking a piece of typing paper, and taping it up on a wall behind a counter or desk and letting it drape onto the horizontal surface. Use that as your backdrop placing the figure in the center and back. The camera should be no closer than 4 inches from the figure to allow the lens to focus, and you should use normal light, and the regular flash. Results will look something like this:
![]() ![]() ![]() As you can see, after you crop the photos and resize them, you should get consistent results that look like they were shot against a light gray backdrop. See if that helps! |

I use the macro setting, with a lamp set nearby. The white balance set to incandescent lighting (usually a bulb icon) and NO FLASH. A studio setup should rely on lighting, not the flash. The flash on a shiny paint will result in the hotspots you see on your figure. Also, when taking pictures of your figure, ESPECIALLY a dark one, do not put white behind the figure. It will force your camera to compensate and make your figure appear dark. Instead, try a neutral shade such as a medium grey to get better details.

I use photobucket to host images instead of attaching them. I like it, and it's free.
I really like how that came out! Makes me want to do it! Great work!
