I do a great deal of cutting around joints to increase flexibility. I think it's something others tend to shy away from but I do it to try to the figures to be able to not only hold a rifle in the right position, but still have flexibility and hold it in others.

In most of the figures that have come out. The arms, when extended out, either stay at shoulder width, or point outward. A few cuts here and there around the chest and inside the upper bicep and tricep, and I can almost get the arms to come inside to the point that the hands are about center with the chest. Next I cut a little bit around the biceps, to get the arms to bend either 90 degrees or a little more. At this point, either hand can interact directly with the head.

The right hand is cut from a Platoon figure.
