In my Joeverse, I try to fuse ideas and characters from my own head and from other subject matter into one cohesive reality. I take characters that seemingly may not fit into G.I. Joe and find ways to make them work. For example: Kent Nelson runs the supernatural division of the Joe team, there are 2 men named Nick Fury (the original and his grandson), the Red Shadows are a rogue terrorist cell within Cobra, Midgar is a city in Ukraine and Skeletor's gang are the main rivals to the Dreadnoks. Let me know how many of those references you got. But, there are still the original Joes and Cobra agents themselves in there and I try to blend my favourite designs together so as to create my perfect vision of each character. That's what I'll be giving you guys today.
Lt. Stone I love Sigma 6 and Lt. Stone was my favourite thing about it. Sgt. Stone was, in my mind, meant to be the before. This is my version of the after. According to my backstory, he lost his left arm and left eye while fighting off a group of Red Fang ninjas during the siege on the Pit (a story I plan to flesh out later on for you guys to read). The patch was made using Loctite Super Glue. I carefully applied it a bit at a time and once it dried, painted over it. It has a textured leather-like appearance that is easier to see in person. Parts List Head: Sgt. Stone (Rise of Cobra) Torso: Sgt. Stone (Rise of Cobra) Right Arm: Sgt. Stone (Rise of Cobra) Left Arm: B.A.T. (Resolute Box Set) Hands: Sgt. Stone (Rise of Cobra) Legs: Sgt. Stone (Rise of Cobra) Vest: Pit Commando (Rise of Cobra) Belt: Unknown Rifle: Marvel Universe figure Eyepatch: Sculpted using glue Next up, Bushido I grew up on martial arts flicks from the 60s, 70s and 80s (thanks to my uncle and his subtitled bootlegs). Not surprisingly, there were a decent chunk of ninja centered films in that cache too. So when Ninja Force came out, I loved and hated it. I dug that there were suddenly these guys Snake Eyes could fight alongside without having to really slow down. But I hated their colour schemes. Bushido's was one that didn't bother me though, as he was a snow ninja. I did question his headwear and how much it looked like a samurai helm, but as you can see I found a balance here. I just wanted my arctic troops to have their own Snake Eyes backing them up. Parts List Head: Storm Shadow (Arctic Threat) Torso: Storm Shadow (Arctic Threat) Arms: Storm Shadow (Arctic Threat) Hands: Cobra Trooper (Resolute) Legs: Storm Shadow (Arctic Threat) Feet: Jungle-Viper (Jungle Assault) Helmet: Cobra Trooper (Resolute) Vest: Cobra Trooper (Resolute) Belt: Zartan (Desert Battle) Sickle & Hook: Two ninja weapons spliced together And finally, Fast Draw This is essentially a straight up repaint. I had the Crysis figure for a while, knowing I wanted to do something with it, but was unsure of what. Then I came across the head of my old Fast Draw and knew I wanted to do an update of him. The missile launcher pack from Duke made it just too perfect to pass up on. So after a lot of painting, Fast Draw was added to my ranks. The paint looks off in spots (like, literally off) in the photos, but not in person. I feel like my ruddy photography skills aren't doing my figures justice. Parts List Head: Alcatraz Nanosuit 2.0 (Crysis 2) Torso: Alcatraz Nanosuit 2.0 (Crysis 2) Arms: Alcatraz Nanosuit 2.0 (Crysis 2) Legs: Alcatraz Nanosuit 2.0 (Crysis 2) Missile Launching Pack: Duke (Desert Battle) I hope you guys enjoy these as much as I enjoyed making them. |
