I must be one of the few people who hates the 25th Anniversary Firefly. I did since it debuted at I guess TF last year, and we saw that it was a Beachhead body repaint. Not that it's a bad figure, I understand the appeal and it's the best FF we've had in a while. But it's not what I wanted or expected in a 25th Anniversary figure (didn't dig the light color, or skinny sweater look)of one of the biggest Cobra characters. Plus, if anyone deserves their own sculpt, it's Firefly.
So, I planned on making my own to more accurately reflect the BDU's the figure originally had. I planned from the day wave 3 was released (since then I'd have every other part ready) on using a Duke for the chest, but the collar wasn't quite right so I just put the plan on hold for a while, and put up with the figure we got (but it always bothered me). Then, while reading a review, I saw that the Viper figure had a new torso mold, and it was perfect. So, yesterday I went and picked one up, and a day later, Firefly was born Last edited by Animal Mother; 06-09-2008 at 08:42 PM.. |

Looks sweet. Did you do anything to his webgear to make it fit nicer or does it just fit nicer on the Viper torso than it did on the Firefly one? Did you have to cut it to remove?

Thanks man, it was also a little too close to the neck on the viper torso, so all I did was heat it up, pull it a little further away from the neck, and cooled it in ice water. No cutting necessary to remove it, just take apart and remove one leg and slip it off.

Nice job. I always thought the wave 3 Firefly was too skinny. What parts did you use for his torso and arms? I would paint his firearms green so it matches the original.

The torso is from a Viper trooper, the upper arms are Snake Eyes and the lower arms from a Cobra trooper. I would have used the entire arm, but the Trooper's shoulders were too big for the Viper torso.

Perfection! This is the Firefly Hasbro should have made. I certainly understand saving by recycling parts (great for more Joes), but I always thought major characters in the Joe mythos sort of deserved their own tooling. You should find an extra vintage FF SMG to complete the look. Excellent work!
