I wanted engines that were flat & rectangular just like the A.G.P.'s. I was trying to figure out what to use for hours. I couldn't think of anything. Pod Racer engines=too big. Sky Hawk or Skystriker engines=too small. I was looking through all kinds of toys that have engines from Star Wars to Power Rangers & then it hit me, A.G.P.!
I was thinking about cutting the top off & working the A.G.P.'s cockpit in with the 2 cannons on either side of the middle cockpit. I was thinking it could be a small attack craft that separates. I was also thinking of attaching Night Raven wings to make the whole thing look bigger but it was too much work so I settled on the just the engines. I totally love this thing now! My only complaint is the Blackstars don't fit in it. The side cockpits are too narrow. Pisses me off, I made it to be a fighter for the Blackstars. I have a ton of custom Star Brigade vehicles but the Blackstars don't have any (yet). I was going to repaint the entire thing but I just love the Mamba colors. And the A.G.P. colors were a perfect match. This is probably going to be the first & last custom I make that doesn't need a drop of paint. But I am curious to see it in different colors so I might make another one someday. Now that I know how it will be a breeze. Quote:
One things for sure! This thing is A LOT more fun to play with now that I don't have to turn that stupid knob while the rotors knock into each other & fall off. Last edited by Steelgrave; 04-13-2011 at 04:37 PM.. |

It looks really good, but I like it most interpreted as a sub, like something you would see in the intro of a 'joe cartoon taking some COBRA agents down to the depths to a secret base.

A cool way to make it a sub would be to cut the tail off & stick the rear ends of 2 or 3 Mantis subs on the back of it. Or maybe the rear end of a Sharc. Or 2 Sharcs, 1 inverted so there's 4 engines.......... Gah! Don't give me any more ideas! I'm already working on over 30 custom projects & I keep thinking of new ones. I can't keep up. |

Very creative and I never liked those rotors either. Looked like some Soviet experimental engineering that never panned out.
However... I suggest a paint scheme. As someone who can't paint a figures if my life depended on it, model spray paint and even the stuff at the hardware store goes on smooth and consistant. It drys fast and both the gloss and flat stick great. Just my 2 cents. Great job!

Steelgrave, about you using it as a space bird... It does bear a certain resemblance to a miniaturized Normandy. Make it black and white and it'll REALLY look the part.
Having said that, great work all around.

Maybe if I do another one. I like the sub idea. But I love the colors on this one so it has to stay the way it is. My Heli-Vipers finally have a real vehicle instead of that stupid Battle Copter backpack thing. This can still be a Mamba. Same way they updated the Flight Pods in the ROC video game. And how they're always updating the HISS tanks. The Mamba with the rotors is the old 80's model & this is the new & improved model. I seriously LOVE this thing now. When it had the rotors it sat off to the side, collected dust & I never looked at it. Now it's one of my favorite vehicles. I just need 1 more Heli-Viper. |
