I'm looking for some input on custom contests. I want to know what everyone likes about them, what they hate about them, and what they would like to see in future custom contests.
Do you enter just for the prizes or the challenge? What kinds of prizes do you like or would you offer? Is there anything that turns you off from entering custom contests? What don't you like about them that you'd like changed? What would you like to see included in a custom contest? Would dividing the contest entries into pros and amatuers make them better? If so, what criteria would you use to define amatuer? So let's hear your thoughts and opinions. |

I would say anyone who takes commissions is a pro.

What about the master customizers that don't take commissions?

The challenge !!!
I would enter if there were no prizes. People seem to vote for popular characters and forget it is a custom contest so it doesn't matter how much time you spend customizing a figure cause the 2 minute unpainted Snake Eyes headswap is teh winnar ! Or (even worse), "I recognized the work so didn't feel it was fair to vote".... Categories: Head/parts swap - Repaint - Kitbash/no limits Again, Head/parts swap - Repaint - Kitbash/no limits Amateur or pro can enter...Head/parts swap - Repaint - Kitbash/no limits I've entered a few contests for the challenge, but I must confess that some prizes wooed me to enter. Most of my contests will be 'original characters' only. Popular characters won't be much of a problem for my next contest. Not voting because you can tell who's winning or who's work it is can be a problem. I think I have that partly figured out using different voting methods. The customizers who enter can rank each entry and then I can find out which one is their favorite. The board can still vote for their favorite and I can also choose a favorite. I like the idea of differentiating the levels of customizing. That's something I'm going to think about. |

I've only entered the first hiss tank custom contest. My entry went largely unnoticed. I enjoy customizing here and there, but my time available and talent level won't get me close to a prize in most contests. So I dont spend my resources towards any of the contests. Anyone who has a previously won a contest (though perhaps not counting a slaughterhouse contest) should be counted as a 'pro'. I also agree that you have to be careful with public voting for a winner. Not everyone is going to understand the point of the contest and will vote erroneously for it. |

What I like about the custom contests is browsing the customs.
Seeing new one of a kind figures. Finding inspiration for my own. |

Would dividing the contest entries into pros and amatuers make them better? If so, what criteria would you use to define amatuer?
[QUOTE] i don't think dividing it is cool, one may be a natural and not know it, and might turn out better work than someone who may be considered a pro. i think it should be fair game, like fighting and many things, it can be a any given sunday situation, dividing it leaves contestants subjected to. a few members here started customizing in 08, and are considered pros, because how nice their work turned out, they obviously have the nack. like tankdriver, he don't have that much experience, but turns out some of the best work around and on a consistent flow too. but due to his lack of time in the game, it shouldn't justify what catorgory he should be placed in. you would think amature due to his time playing, but from his skills it speaks of master. so i think it should be open game for all ranges of experience. being a vet and a pro in the same playing field with amatures to me is fair game, the pro might lose to a amature, or the amature will only strive to get better by being beat by a champ. this is only my opinion though.. none the less, i love the customs on here, and all the contest, even if i don't participate in any, i like to see what ppl enter and feel it makes this place a more enjoyable experience. Love competitions.
It always brings out some interesting entries. As for what I don't like its limits...customizing is like art it flows where it flows sometimes you paint, sometimes you just swap parts. The only exceptions of course is when your asking for a vehicle custom...clearly if you make a figure with no vehicle that makes no sense. And I swear I've seen some LBC's that are just as good sometimes better than professional customs. |

Another thing, I'm not heavily into 25th/me/roc, so prizes now are hard to find with something I want. I think the best way to do it is have it be a classic vehicle that anyone would want, for example: tomahawks or mcc's or 1983 hq's, somwthing that can fit in with any collection.
