Man oh man this was tough.

Please know that, while I tried to be fair and impartial (I made a big, complicated scoring spreadsheet and everything!), I'm not a professional judge and I'm certainly not a professional customizer, and all seven of you pulled off stuff that I could never do. My hat's off to each one of you.

I'm not going to share all the scores and notes, but I do think it's worth explaining my process a bit. Entries were awarded 1-5 points each for Concept, Craft, Presentation, and Participation, as well as 0-3 bonus points for various things that didn't fit into one of those categories. I did a first pass on each one with notes only, then went back through and assigned point values based on the notes, then went back through again and adjusted points based on the highest score in any category (meaning, if 1 person got a 5 in Craft, they set the bar that the rest were scored against).

When that was all done, I had a 3-way tie at the top, with a 4th person just 1 point behind them. So I used number of 5s received and bonus points as the tiebreakers and things fell into place.

Before I announce the winners, I want to give a couple of shoutouts:

First, to Monte for stepping in with the coolest and most creative concept, and whipping up an old school filecard to boot! It was awesome to see some out of the box stuff. Count me as a BF3K fan who definitely wants to see more.

Next, to AxonRey who, while just barely missing out on the top three, gave us the single figure I personally want the most. I've been a fan of your customs for years and your color and paintwork just gets better and better. If nothing else, the fact that you HAVE TO create and post the rest of the team now that you've done Blaster... that's the real prize!

OK, on to the winners:

1st Place: Blaster (SlicesCustoms): I know you delight in the competition - and let's face it, can be a bit of an a-hole about it ;) - but boy howdy do you stand up and deliver, my guy. To nobody's surprise, you set the bar with top marks in both Craft (my god, the mask and goggles... those colors... that strap FFS... the mismatched gloves are perfect... I could go on) and Presentation (you've got this down to a science with the smoke and lighting). Top marks in two of four categories!

2nd Place: Dee-Jay (backhawkdown): You cranked out Dee-Jay in record time and holy hell what a gauntlet to throw. Seriously, it kicked so much ass that when I first saw your post I was afraid it would scare folks off from participating. (TBH, if you had given us one of your signature comic-captioned posts you probably win this thing running away). Dee-Jay is one of my low-key favorite ridiculous Joes and he's never ever looked better.

3rd Place: Maverick (ARBCO Avenue): This is such a stellar Maverick, I don't even know where to begin - and I?ve never been a fan of the character. It's like BF2K meets Buck Rogers meets Centurions. You updated his helmet but in such a way that it still feels perfectly retro-futurist. And I LOVE the use of the CFT buck. Just an all-out banger.

Very cool! Great work all around by all the entries; I particularly loved the new takes on the characters. I’m always impressed when customizes can pull off new ideas that ring true to the originals.
